Vet minimum is a running joke here....for any new FA that hits the market there's always a "sign him for vet minimum" response or thread.
haha ok thanks for filling me in.

Dre Bly ReleasedBigHairedAristocrat 02-19-2009, 11:31 AM Vet minimum is a running joke here....for any new FA that hits the market there's always a "sign him for vet minimum" response or thread. haha ok thanks for filling me in. SmootSmack 02-19-2009, 12:11 PM I think people can use their best judgement of whether a topic is thread worthy in and of its own. Inevitably, there's going to be a lot of overlap in discussion particularly in the off-season. I look at the Free Agent Thread more about updates and general NFL FA news, but not necessarily news that's really directly relevant to the Redskins. For example, Deuce being cut is probably not that relevant to the Redskins because we don't need a 30+ RB coming off multiple knee surgeries. (By the same token, I can understand how the Colts cutting Marvin Harrison could be thread worthy because he's been such a major part of the Colts organization that even though it was inevitable it's pretty big news.) Jordan Gross closing in on a 6 year deal is thread worthy because it closes whatever window of opportunity we thought we might have had getting a young OT (a position of need for us) but it also may open up another opportunity with the Panthers likely cutting LB Landon Johnson to make the deal work. I guess I would just say-and Matty and the other mods may disagree-use your best judgement on what's thread worthy or not. Worst case scenario, we'll just lock it and move on. BigHairedAristocrat 02-19-2009, 12:39 PM I dont think Gross can be considered young. He'll be on the wrong side of 30 when the 2010 season starts. He's youngER than any of our starting O-linemen, but thats not saying much. The panthers are doing everyone else a favor by signing him to a deal where he'll be making over 10M/year for the next 3 years. Ruhskins 02-19-2009, 01:36 PM haha ok thanks for filling me in. Welcome to the vet minimum joke :food-smil Ruhskins 02-19-2009, 01:43 PM I wholeheartedly disagree. Threads are getting too big and too generic. Keep topics separated! Well there was a thread where folks were discussing the team's defensive backs (http://www.thewarpath.net/redskins-locker-room/28370-for-all-you-d-hall-lovers-7.html) and Dre Bly was brought up. Even for the team to consider picking up a player like Bly, the whole situations with Halls, Rogers, and Springs would have to be somewhat resolved. So this is why I thought a thread specifically for Dre Bly was not necessary. But that's just my opinion. vallin21 02-19-2009, 01:57 PM We only look into Bly if these things happen. A) We do not Re-sign Hall B) If we release Springs C) If Rogers demands a trade or becomes a locker room problem The last two scenarios are "if", so if either one of these things happen, thats the only time I could see us signing Bly. dmek25 02-19-2009, 02:02 PM too old. and really, not very good. no thanks BigHairedAristocrat 02-19-2009, 02:30 PM we might not have a choice. Aso's contract almost ensures Hall will sign elsewhere so we're left with keeping Springs at 8.5M and drafting a corner in the 1st round this year OR signing Bly to something around 5M/year. Ruhskins 02-19-2009, 02:31 PM we might not have a choice. Aso's contract almost ensures Hall will sign elsewhere so we're left with keeping Springs at 8.5M and drafting a corner in the 1st round this year OR signing Bly to something around 5M/year. I would say sign Bly, the offensive line is a bigger priority. TenandSix:Unacceptable 02-21-2009, 04:58 PM Of course this was a guy that Cerrato targeted. Can't even stay on a team. Go figure. The writing is on the wall. Cerrato blows. /end thread |
