We need to get him, this way we don't waste a draft pick on a punter and can use it for an extra lineman
What would it take to get LechlerNflnick11 02-15-2009, 09:00 PM We need to get him, this way we don't waste a draft pick on a punter and can use it for an extra lineman tryfuhl 02-16-2009, 02:38 AM Maybe if we didnt need to punt so much we wouldn't need a Probowl punter. While I know that this post is lacking in complete logic (intentionally I'm sure) it cracked me the hell up. Ruhskins 02-16-2009, 02:50 AM Maybe if we didnt need to punt so much we wouldn't need a Probowl punter. Ever heard of the term "field position battle"? Atlanta decided to franchise their punter, b/c he did a helluva job helping Atlanta win the field position battle. Any team needs good special team players, and being that the NFC is hyper competitive, I don't see anything wrong with going for a guy like Lechler. Now getting him alone is not going to change EVERYTHING, the team will still need to address other areas. dmek25 02-16-2009, 07:41 AM i say yes. wouldn't really be that expensive. and its been ages since we had a good, consistent punter. for that thought, its been ages since we have had a good consistent kicker Hamoskinz 02-16-2009, 04:44 PM I'm also buying into the thought that getting Lechler should be our main priority in FA, not a OLinemen. Our offensive woes are likely to continue so next year so a punter who can pin the opponent deep in their own territory will be more effective overall than spending big $$$ on Gross or Haynesworth. jsarno 02-16-2009, 11:31 PM I know the man is a great punter, but can we afford to get him under the cap? Usually our punter is one of the lowest paid players, Lechler will require more. htownskinfan 02-17-2009, 09:35 AM theres no way we sign him, this move would make way too much sense to everybody,i say theres no way in hell it happens 44ever 02-17-2009, 10:29 AM theres no way we sign him, this move would make way too much sense to everybody,i say theres no way in hell it happens Thats funny I was thinking the same thing. I think we should dedicate most of our resources to O/D Line but Lechler is a no brainer. He should be a priority SBXVII 02-17-2009, 10:42 AM If all he's going to command is 2 mill. then we should still be ok. I think the last numbers people came up with was somewhere around 14 mill after we cut and possibly restructer some contracts. Usually the Rookie pool is around 3-4 mill. That still gives us some room to try for either an O-lineman or D-lineman. Right now we are like 600k over with the restructer of Carter and Randel El. right? Letting Taylor go frees up 8.4 mill. and depending on what they do with Springs ...if they let him go it frees up another 6 mill. that's already 14 not including any others. The big question is are we keeping Taylor and restructuring? will Springs restructure? or will we let them go? SBXVII 02-17-2009, 02:30 PM Hey any chance of us picking up a soccer player who can kick a round ball 50 yrds or more and having him kick a football just as long for less? LOL. |
