Redskin Jim 02-14-2009, 02:41 PM Dansby and Vilma are both good players in their own rights, but they are more along the lines of M. Washington when he played for indy. Very close to the top tier lbs but not breaking into that elite class. Suggs is in that elite class who has the intangeibles that put him at a higher level than the other 2. As you said Goat, he is the class of the fa this year..
The Goat 02-14-2009, 02:42 PM I could go for Suggs but not Lewis.
goes w/o saying :)...
honestly, i doubt Suggs leaves Baltimore though. Lewis will get his payday and Suggs will stay behind and be the "face" of the D w/ Ed Reed. Dansby is more likely to make a move and while I think he'll still be an upgrade for us i just can't get as excited...
Ruhskins 02-14-2009, 04:11 PM Suggs and Dansby are going to be tagged by their respective teams. If I had my pick, I would go with Dansby. Suggs is a terrific players, but he can be a bit of thug at times, and this is reflected in personal fouls he has committed (his favorite, roughing the passer). I guess AZ going ot the SB drove Dansby price higher, had they not gone we could've gotten him at a less expensive price. But like I said, it is a moot point b/c AZ will most likely tag him.

Given our shitty history of mismanaging draft picks, I don't want any player who has been franchised. Giving up 2 1st round picks is too much, even if it fills a need with a very good player. We need to get younger, not ship away picks - even if it is for a stud.
I believe Shane Lechler already has or will be franchised by the Raiders, meaning there's no way in hell he plays anywhere but Oakland next year. No one will give up 2 1st rounders for a punter. Now, if they franchise Asomugha again, then I'm all for pursuing Lechler.
I'm not going to make my case for any one individual, rather for a position. I think we need to draft the best tackle available at 13, or trade down for extra picks and still take the best tackle available with our 1st selection. We've got to have one of the oldest (and most brittle) O-lines in the game. Priority number 1 is build the trenches IMO.

Well we can't afford to go after a franchised player or a RFA if we only have 4 picks. My case for Dansby was only if he wasn't going to get the tag, which is not going to happen.

Dansby will receive a 20% increase if the Cards tag him which means about $10 mill on the year. He isn't worth that IMHO so i think it leaves the Cards in a lousy situation.
... i wonder if the FO is looking seriously at Boley. He's very young and his drop-off in play last year doesn't make a lot of sense. Could also be a very nice value FA move.

wilsowilso 02-14-2009, 05:55 PM This is a great year to draft an OT, but I'm leaning towards passing on one of the big four (or five, depending on your point of view) and going after either Vernon Carey or Khalif Barnes in free agency.
Barnes is probably more talented overall, but he has lots of question marks in terms of his maturity. I'd probably lean toward Carey. He can play almost all positions along the line, he hasn't missed a game in four or five years, he's only 27-28 years old. I understand that's not exactly young, but compared to what we have he's a baby.
This.
Grab a very solid offensive lineman in free agency, just not one of the top end ones because they will be too expensive.
After that we can draft an o lineman in the first. I say trade down a bit and get this Mack guy that everyone around here seems to love.
That adds two very solid pieces to the oline and that makes us much better overall IMO.
SmootSmack 02-14-2009, 06:33 PM I think the Patriots, Giants, Jets, and one other team I'm forgetting could be the biggest suitors for Dansby. This isn't including the Cardinals themselves of course, who have the advantage right now.
Raiders, barring some last minute change of heart, are going to franchise Nnamdi

Everyone seems to have this idea of trading down in the draft. Has there been any talk on which teams might want to trade up? Id like to trade down also but i haven't heard anything solid as of where that would be or who with.
