Laron Landry. I would do whatever I could to move him back to Strong Safety in 2009. If we're unable to find a suitable FS on our roster, in free agency, or in the draft, I would keep him at FS, but that would be a last resort measure. Landry is far too disruptive when near the line of scrimmage to waste at FS.

Chris Horton. He's a great SS and one of the surprises of the 2008 season, but he'll never be as much of a consistent playmaker at SS as Landry is right now. If he stays on the Skins in 2009, it will be as a backup to LL and in Cobra packages. I think we should consider trading Horton for a 2nd rounder player but nothing less. Hes a great insurance policy to have behind Landry.

Kareem Moore. He showed tremendous promise in camp, but got injured and fell behind fellow rookie Chris Horton on the depth Chart. While Horton is a natural SS who can only play SS, Moore is a natural FS who (ideally) could start at FS for the Skins in 2009. He may not be ready though, which is why I would consider keeping Springs around for a bit. If we let go of Springs, we should bring in a value FA to compete with Moore for the spot there.

I have to disagree on Landry at least at this point. Landry is a surprisingly poor tackler in my opinion... Horton at least today appears to be the surer tackler but lacks coverage skills. Meanwhile Landry showed phenomenal coverage skills in college and I'm pretty convinced he was ailing much of last year or would have come up w/ more defended passes and INTs (didn't have the speed). Don't forget Laron was a FS @ LSU and by his senior year opposing QBs rarely even risked a bomb because of him... I'm still hoping we see that kind of shutdown play from him @ FS.

That's a good point Goat. Fortunately for us Landry gives us a lot of options.

where is doughty?! you omitted one key part of the secondary. he is a starting caliber strong safety (barely but he is!) and i don't know if he would beat out horton for the starting spot but he would be one of the best backup safeties in the league. and about the rest of the post i would would not count on springs being a full-time starter at any position(due to the fact that his bones are made of glass) and i dont think that moore is anywhere near being starter too. and yes landry is better at strong safety than free safety but the skins don't have a better option at free safety than landry and i don't think it would be feasible to sign or draft a starting caliber safety when the skins have so many other more pressing needs(i.e. ol, dl, lb).

Seriously Bro? Doughty is long gone and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a June 1st cut, he has no value to our team anymore and K Moore replaced him as our third safety.

I'd rather have doughty than moore, moore did not replace him doughty just got injured bighairedaristocrat was talking about bring in a fa or drafting someone abd thing that would be a waste of a pick or money since we have so many other more pressing needs!

Hall's history seems to show that he behaves himself until he signs that big contract then he turns into a different player, the one even terrible Oakland wouldnt put up with. I'm not sure if this will happen with the Skins but I'm not sure he's the kind of guy I'd drop a bunch of money on because history says its a mistake.

Between trying to decide if Hall or even Haynesworth are apt to return to their old ways after getting the money, maybe we should sign a shrink or a FBI profiler to the team.

I understand youre concern with Hall. I think thats in the back of eveyones mind. But he just turned 25 years old. So at some point he would start thinking about his stamp on the NFL. He has the talent so I dont see him not showing it. I have a feeling he will be all grown up come next season. I hope:)

While I hope he grows I'm not sure if I was running the Skins I would want to be paying him a bunch of $ in the hope of him acting like a professional.

I would think his offeason demeanor is being watched. And he did show himself to be a professional for the time he played with us. As well as a tremendous talent and a will to contribute. Its not like if the Skins dont sign him nobody will. He knows that and so do the Skins.

I think he wants to be part of the Skins org.

He's definitely said so... aside from being "home" maybe he's realized a locker room full of veteran leaders is the right environment for him and regardless of a few cuts and FA moves this offseason we'll still have core group of vets who will never let the drama bullsh*t get out of hand.

Yeah since Oakland is such a model franchise for a "bad" player to change. Actually if you are looking at "history" a terrible Randy Moss in Oakland went to a good locker room in NE and did very well (character-wise). It's funny how people forget that Sean Taylor was headed towards the wrong path, and changed for the better.

Unless Hall is an idiot with half a brain, I think he has learned his lesson after being humiliated by getting cut in Oakland.
