Mocking the Draft: QB Matt Stafford Still Consensus number 1 - DC Pro Sports Report (http://dcprosportsreport.com/2009/02/mocking-the-draft-qb-matt-stafford-still-consensus-number-1.html)

We have updated the Mock Draft Database (http://www.dcprosportsreport.com/MockDraft.htm). We not have 190 mock drafts listed for 2009 draft. We also have compiled results for the mock drafts updated in February for picks 1 through 5. We have also for the redskins and the Redskins consensus if far from clear, but comes down to three players.

If one of the "Big 4" OTs is available when we pick, we should see how good of an offer we can get to trade down. If we can trade down to the mid 20s and pick up a 2nd round pick and 4th-6th round pick, we should do it (with the plan on drafting OT and OG with our first two picks). If not, we should take the best OT still available at 13.

Under no circumstances should we take a DL player at 13. None of the guys ive seen projected to fall that far seem worthy of the pick, especially over one of the Big 4 OTs.

Stafford would be the worst thing to EVER happen to the Skins! I mean Ever.. Look at his body of work, poor decision making, a cannon for an arm. His game is along the lines of Jamarcus Russell and Jeff George! If we pick him, the Team is in for another 5-6 years of mediocrity because we will be crippled finacially by this pick and tied to a quarterback that is not an nfl calliber player. I seriously hope Snyderotto is not that blind to see we need to address the lines this draft and maybe next year dip into a quarterback rich draft of 2010....

It's only stating that the mock draft has Stafford rated #1 overall. We will almost certainly be drafting a lineman or trading down to draft multiple linemen.

I think if E.Brown is there at 13 we will take him, The BEST O-LINEMAN may be gone at 13, if so then we really need to look at a DE.. I ve also seen mocks having us take that Heyward-Bay WR from Maryland at 13.. Not sure if he's worth takin that high

One teams luxury is another teams basic need. Hard to put a price on a needed position. I understand everyone is using the value system, but keep in mind I keep hearing how the draft is full with OL and slim pickins in the DL catagory. Also hearing that after the first top pick there is a major decline in talent in all positions.

I like E. Brown a lot, but he's another tweener type that might be best suited to a 3-4. (See the discussion in the thread asking if we should switch to a 3-4 defense.)

I think Brown is going to be really good & seems smart & mature. The problem w/drafting him is w/our current system, and Blache values gap control so much that d linemen have to play conservatively. Brown is a pure pass rusher & needs to play in a system where he can get upfield a lot.

Its interesting you said that... in reading many mocks, it seems most of the college DEs are pojected as either 3-4 DEs or LBs at the NFL level. Very few of the top DEs are pojected to be DEs in a 4-3 defense.

That said, our OL is more of a concern (by far) than our DL. Assuming we keep Griffin (as speculated), having a healthy Daniels back alone will upgrade our unit over last year, with or without Jason Taylor. It is an area that certainly needs to be addressed, but our entire Oline (save for Samuels) needs to be rebuilt over the next two years. As it stands right now, we need a new starting RT and one, if not two new starting guards. Center can be delayed one more year and Samuels needs to move to the RT position at some point in 2009 or 2010. Otherwise, he will need to be replaced soon - possibly as soon as 2011.
