GTripp0012 02-09-2009, 01:20 AM There's one reason to me that yells Jason has a somewhat short leash. He's not Zorns guy. You see it all the time when new coaches come in, they replace current players with 'their guys.' Wouldn't be surprised to see it happen here in DC eventually. I think Jason will get another year or two to show adequate progression, but if he doesn't Zorn isn't connected at the hip like he would be if he drafted Campbell.Understood, but Zorn likely doesn't get the benefit of the doubt to stay post-Campbell. I can't imagine Zorn gets more than three years to build a winner.

I think this is a fair statement, and you are being reasonable to say that Zorn would give JC a year or two to find out whether he'd fit the system or not. If he doesn't progress, he's gone; if he does, he stays. I do wonder if JZ would be able to survive another year or two with a poor playing performance of Campbell.
Skins4L 02-09-2009, 01:36 AM well have to wait and see once again what he does this year.. i dont see anyone replacing him in camp. thats not our call, i just dont see it.
ridgely 02-09-2009, 10:30 AM What exactly is wrong with competiotion in camp. I see other guys arounfd the NFL come in and compete. JC should have to earn it. I would give Brennan at least the opportunity to compete for the job. Over all the QB situation in DC is lacking. It wouldn't be rehashed over and over and over if we had a competant QB.

Why do you think Jason Campbell is incompetent? He was in a new offense and his numbers actually improved. He cut his turnovers down and in a new offense that's pretty impressive. If we want to blame anyone here, we should blame the receivers. They dropped so many passes this year it made me sick. I have no problem with competition either, but lets stop with this Colt Brennan love fest. He was third string behind a career backup. Yes Collins played great for us down the stretch last season but there's a reason he's been a backup for the majority of his career. Colt couldn't even beat him out for the backup job. I think JC is at a critical point in his development. He needs to concentrate solely on the playbook and improving his timing with our receivers. The last thing he needs at this point is to look over his shoulder.
HAIL!
freddyg12 02-09-2009, 02:21 PM Couldn't disagree more w/ this. For one thing it ignores logic: Jason has improved against remarkable odds. From '07 to '08 the entire offensive system changed, and the o-line regressed significantly as evidenced in almost twice the number of sacks on Jason (especially considering he began to use his feet and make defenders miss this season it's pretty telling how much more he was sacked - the o-line was probably the worst in football by week 8). Through all that he markedly improved on fumbles, interceptions, footwork and decision-making. He is also tough as nails and becoming more of a threat w/ his legs.
... I don't mind defending Jason over and over again cause it just sharpens my thoughts on why he's our QB. Said it before and i'll say it again here: JC will be money in '09 if the FO/coaches do their job to upgrade the line. Drafting a franchise tackle is the first step and this appears to be a great year for them. Opening up competition on the interior between Jansen, Rinehart and Thomas is also important and if all else fails grab a stop-gap guy in FA if Jansen can't transition to guard and Rinehart still has sand in the vag.
Great post, I would add to it that Zorn didn't help JC much as the season went on by trying stubbornly to implement his wc offense on a team w/personel far too slow for it. Case in point, it was baffling to me that in the Pittsburgh game Zorn kept calling plays w/4 wr's & empty backfield. If your qb is getting killed, why do you not keep a rb in to help block, especially when you've got one of the best blocking backs in the nfl.

I not impressed by the fact that he threw so few int's because he didnot throw very many TD's to go along with that. Look for the people who think he is a very good QB I'm not sure what you see at this point. For the people who think he should go or get benched I feel we need to give him one more year in this system. I think with either of these views JC's career here boils down to next year.

Spell check man, spell check. Also, please don't completely ignore the terrible offensive line and how that can affect QB play. As I've said before, we could put a healthy Tom Brady behind our line, and he would still have the same production JC had last season.

JC will never be Tom Brady!
redsk1 02-09-2009, 02:53 PM This is a pure speculative article. Opinion. Nothing more.
I think all would agree JC deserves to be our QB next year and a chance to improve even more. Now after next year, if he hasn't made any strides or has regressed the organization has a right to offer or not to offer him a contract.
As someone who is unsold on JC, I do really like the fact he works his butt off and has improved every offseason. I hope he does the same this year.
