44Deezel 01-23-2009, 08:31 AM OK how many of you on the Gruden thread talked about how much he did with the lack of talent he had? If that was you then why would you want BA the man who was in charge of finding that lack of talent for the Buc's.?
Bingo. The Bucs have been the mirror image of the Skins the last 4 years... sometimes making the playoffs and sometimes not, but when they do make the playoffs it's by the skin of their teeth and then they get bounced in the first round. They're a perenniel 9-7 or worse team, which is what we already have here, and their talent level was about the same or even worse. They had dogs on offense and the defense was solid, but not elite (sound familiar).
The Bucs are the Skins of the NFC South. But I agree with many of the other posts. It's good to know Danny is at least entertaining the idea of getting help in the FO.
SmootSmack 01-23-2009, 09:04 AM We might have to shut this board down for lack of activity if the Redskins actually do bring in Bruce Allen
1. We say we want a GM-I guess Allen would fit that bill since he's a former GM at the moment
2. We say we want a "Football Guy"-I guess Allen would fit that bill as a fomer player, player agent, and executive in 3 different leagues
So we'll get what we want I suppose...but then what we'll do?
Seriously though, my curiosity is piqued with this rumor. But I suspect it's more two friends who talk on a semi-regularly basis and now it's just more interesting because one is out of a job and the other could use someone like him

Loooooove that chicken at Popeyes...POPPIN FRESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
firstdown 01-23-2009, 10:32 AM One thing that makes me salivate is a lot of the lineman he's drafted have turned into quality starters. Sears, Trueblood, and Joesph were all part of a line that helped Dunn (who's 34) and Grahm combine for over 1,200 yards with a 4.2 average. Zuttah also seems to have a bright future with the team. Aquib Talib turned out to be one of the better defensive rookies this year with 4 int's. Clayton was a one year wonder. Barrett Rudd was one hell of a pick and Alex Smith has been a nice role player for them. As for the rest well I'm willing to bet that a lot of them are cut but some of them might have a role that only Buc's fans really pay attention to. Sort of how like how we know about guys on our team like Lorenzo Alexander, Demetric Evans, and HB Blades.
Wow over 1200 yards combined!!!! Didn't we have one rusher with more yards with what we call an old crappy line? So now people here want to try and fix a problem with a person who has not really shown any thing better than vinny at bringing in new talent.
Skins4L 01-23-2009, 10:49 AM Everybodys buggin out over a Front Office move... how do we know what hell be like?...WE DONT...
Somebody wake me up when we attack free agency.....
freddyg12 01-23-2009, 10:55 AM He was the GM in Tampa since 2004, that's it for his GM experience.
thanks for the info. Not much experience as the gm, but long enough to guide a team. I wonder what the circumstances really were in his firing & how much Gruden had to do w/it.
freddyg12 01-23-2009, 11:05 AM I think it was pretty much stated this past offseason that Vinny would be the football boss. Hence the whole accountability issue and Snyder giving him "another year" to turn things around. I think at some point you gotta stop the paranoia/hate, and just go with what's been said by the team. I don't know if Snyder has relinquished his involvement with player contracts, but I think Vinny is in charge of who gets acquired through free agency and draft picks.
Yes, stated by whom? The Redskins, owned by danny, who happens to have a rich background in pr/marketing & seeks to control every aspect of pr about his team.
What would you expect him to say? "well, vinny is in charge of all football decisions, until I decide I want to intervene."
Granted, it looks as though Vinny has been given more authority & is speaking for the draft picks. But my point is that if you were good friends w/your boss, even though he officially has handed over the reins, don't you think that his opinion would heavily influence your decisions?
I asked this question of JLC but it didn't get posted in his online chat. I asked if there were any owner/gm friendships like that in the nfl and how they affect biz. The only one I know of was Shanahan & Bowlen in Denver. It was really hard for both of them when Shanahan was fired, but after all those years maybe it couldn't go on w/ a friendship and a business relationship. IMO, if you value the friendship long term, it might make sense to change the business relationship, whether by firing or reassigning duties.

I think this was pretty much a consensus by the sports media, even those outlets that are not controlled by Snyder. Yes, Snyder may have some influence, but many saw his change of title (promotion?) to Exec VP as a sign that he would be the one in charge. But Snyder is not at the level of Jerry Jones, meddling in everything, nor do I think he's at the level of getting involved as he was prior to Gibbs coming to town.

Our view ...
Of course, ‘not very good at all’ would be an accurate description of Redskins GM/whateverhedoes Vinny Cerrato and Snyder himself. Together, Snyderrato have mired the Redskins in mediocrity or worse for most of the last 10 years. Their drafts have been lackluster and often ignored and free agency has usually been an expensive mess, especially when Joe Gibbs wasn’t handling it. And don’t ask about trades. They’ve been worse.
