RUMOR: Bruce Allen to Redskins?SmootSmack 01-22-2009, 06:21 PM really? Sears, Trueblood, and Joesph were all part of a line that helped Dunn (who's 34) and Grahm combine for over 1,200 yards with a 4.2 average. Zuttah also seems to have a bright future with the team. Aquib Talib turned out to be one of the better defensive rookies this year with 4 int's. Clayton was a one year wonder. Barrett Rudd was one hell of a pick and Alex Smith has been a nice role player for them. As for the rest well I'm willing to bet that a lot of them are cut but some of them might have a role that only Buc's fans really pay attention to. Sort of how like how we know about guys on our team like Lorenzo Alexander, Demetric Evans, and HB Blades. JWsleep 01-22-2009, 06:28 PM If he signs for the vet min, sure. J/k Is it time for training camp yet? A10sROCK 01-22-2009, 06:41 PM Allen has the pedigree of his father and likes to draft for the trenches. He had good picks in Oakland and Tampa. He would be a big improvement on Vinny Cerrato in terms of direction of our draft picks and quality of those he picks. MTK 01-22-2009, 07:07 PM really? I thought the dude was gm at Oakland for a no. of years, then tampa for the last 7 He was the GM in Tampa since 2004, that's it for his GM experience. Allen worked with Gruden in Oakland and joined him in Tampa Bay in 2004. During his nine seasons with the Raiders, Allen, who has a strong background in salary cap management and contract negotiations, was named the league's executive of the year in 2002. Allen was actually a senior administrator with Oakland in 2002 when the Gruden-led Bucs defeated the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. However, if he doesn't have full authority over personel, which I question whether Vinny truly does, we've got the same issues. Having said that, a hiring of Allen & letting go of Vinny might be a sign of major positive change by the Danny. But simply hiring another guy w/some name recognition does not convince me that true change is underway. I think it was pretty much stated this past offseason that Vinny would be the football boss. Hence the whole accountability issue and Snyder giving him "another year" to turn things around. I think at some point you gotta stop the paranoia/hate, and just go with what's been said by the team. I don't know if Snyder has relinquished his involvement with player contracts, but I think Vinny is in charge of who gets acquired through free agency and draft picks. SBXVII 01-22-2009, 08:05 PM This does not pass the smell test....but having said that I would like to see some new ideas come to the front office. My biggest question is ....is there anyway Snyder is trying to figure out how to bring Allen in as a GM, keep Cerrato in the position he is in with his fancy name title, and have Allen kinda teach Cerrato the ropes. I know it's a horrible way to think but I can't see Snyder letting his man Cerrato go but I can see Cerrato being a buffer between him and possibly a GM. Even if we did this it would be nice to have fresh ideas about some of the contract stuff but if all it will accomplish is friction between upper management as to how to: which particular player we should go after or draft or how the contract should be written then we could do without. Let Cousin Vinny and Zorn have their extra year and if it does not work out move on. but ...I wonder if Snyder is not wanting to pass up on another great mind and have Allen in the wings if Cerrato/Zorn can't get the job done. Because who knows who will be available a year from now? GM wise. 44ever 01-22-2009, 08:20 PM This does not pass the smell test....but having said that I would like to see some new ideas come to the front office. I was thinking along the same lines bring him in as a assistant to Vinny but how could they justify putting him on the payroll for that position. Plus what kind of message does it send. Also like you said, who knows who's available next year. I think if you bring in a Vinny replacement, you fire Vinny. So there is no cross contamination:) I can't see were this guy fits in honestly. But anythings possible I guess. BrunellMVP? 01-22-2009, 08:22 PM frankly, he has to be an upgrade, i know that sounds horrible and void of rationality, but really, Vinny has to cede some authority, his system hasn't worked- he's never fielded a team with a LEGITIMATE chance at winning a superbowl (eking into the playoffs doesn't count in my mind). Dirtbag59 01-22-2009, 08:42 PM Personally I think I would rather wait a year, see how Vinny does, pray he doesn't give up any of next years picks and then if he fails go after a guy like Eric DeCosta during next years offseason, all the while promising him full autonomy over football operations. Either way there's very little chance of Bruce Allen replacing Vinny short of a tradgedy. Knock on wood. |
