Jason Brown is the only free agent i would go after.
I don't see how a Tackle will help when the interior line was the bigger issue.
I want the Redskins to get out building through the free agency.
I thought that Vinnie was going to build through the draft and do it right this time.
You know, stay away from making several big money salary cap unfriendly free agent moves.
Its a viscous circle.
Synder has been impatient with HCs.
Before Gibbs, Synder didn't allow any HC to establish or create a Redskins identity a 'system' if you will.
Synder meddles in the player personnell dept. making it hard for the coach to get the players he wants.
Skins fall for the quick fix through free agency and get hamstrung with horrible contracts and players that don't fit the system/scheme.
The coach gets fired, the whole thing starts over.
If we would just stick with a coach and stick with a system we would have more success.
Now we have a budding system in place and coaches gaining knowledge and continuity within that system. Maybe its time to let the coaches develop players instead of chasing players that were developed by other teams for different systems?
Living off of free agency imo is tacitly admitting that we can't develop procure and develop talent.
I thought that this was over, i hope Vinnie/Synder can control themselves during this upcoming free agnecy.
THAT GUY- this post isn't directed at you, just how crazy things get before free agency,
i'm hoping its much ado about nothing

Don't you remember rushers like Tuck, Harrison, Suggs, and Ware coming from the outside and getting to Campbell? I don't think you can easily dismiss the need to improve at tackle.

Yeah, premiere edge rushers are occasionally gonna beat even the best OL and most of those pressure/sacks you refer to were on Jansen and an injured Samuels and a couple were on Geisinger playing out of positoin at OT.
I think the improvement will come with a healthy Samuels and the continued progress of Heyer. I thought Heyer was good in pass pro when he was in the line-up, and Buges has spoken highly of him.
The right side interior line (Rabach and Thomas) were healthy enough to play yet still struggled.
It bothered me when JC was getting pressure up the middle on a 3 step drop. I just wonder how Rabach or Thomas are gonna be able to block the likes of a Ratliff w/o a double team if they couldn't do it last year?
GMScud 02-27-2009, 12:41 AM Watching Kiper and McShay go back and forth is classic. And then hearing Scott Van Pelt follow it up with his Kiper impression is even better. It just happened on the 11:00pm SportsCenter. Good stuff.

Oh man, I missed that.
T.O.Killa 03-12-2009, 09:38 PM Redskins holding private workout for Clay Mathews. I hope this does not mean we are going to pick him 13th. Hopefully, they hope to trade down and get him there.
rbanerjee23 03-12-2009, 09:49 PM 1st-By some stroke of luck: Aaron Curry (LB)/BJ Raji (DT)/ DE Brian Orakpo
more realistic Rey Maulauaga (LB)/James
Laurinitis
RB Knowshon Moreno / C Alex Mack
3rd C Antoine Caldwell/C Eric Wood
OLB Marcus Freeman/OLB Clay Matthews
RB Rashad Jennings/ RB Javon Ringer
DE Phillip Hunt
BPA Offensive Line
5th (BPA) -OLB Kaluka Maiava/ OT Robert Brewster /C Dallas Reynolds (328lbs)
6th (BPA)-CB Wopamo Osaisai/ CB/KR Brice McCain /FB(Pass)Mark Hafner
haha, dude wishful thinking. There is no way on this earth that curry is going to fall to 13. He is the lowest risk, most value pick in this draft and whoever gets him just solved their problems at linebacker. Brian Orakpo is also not goint to be there because he is just a workout warrior, a vernon davis type of player, who just looks incredible during individual workouts and is going to get picked up quickly.
Honestly, the best offensive lineman period thats available (hopefully tackle) would be the best decision.
rbanerjee23 03-12-2009, 09:54 PM To me Portis got a lot of mileage on him, and he been in a lot of head on collisions. Even though he's tough as nails, we need a brand new muscle car! We need to draft a outstanding playmaker to compliment him in the back field. Betts is not that dude! If Portis aint playing we are getting it handed to us all last season. We need a mustang back there with our thoroughbred. Betts and Rock aint getting it done. There are 3 excellent playmaking backs in this draft we need one of them. The OL and DL can wait to the later rounds. I watch more college football than I do pro(except for the redskins). Those OL and DL in this draft are not that impressive. Majority take a lot of plays off and are overweight and lazy. Not your prototype Joe Gibbs, tough redskins players.
My point being we need to score more point with playmakers on offense, we need speed and durability i.e. percy harvin, Beanie Wells, Moreno. They are young monsters, playmakers, with speed. To me Harvin or Moreno would be the best fit because they are just like portis. We would not lose a step with them learning from and backing up portis in our style of play. Then portis could be the finisher in the redzone. Its all about scoring points in the NFL and running the ball. No 1st round OL or DL gonna do that! I rest my case for now. Hail to the Redskins!!!
It won't matter if there is no one to block for you. Clinton Portis is 27, always arrives in shape and has missed 9 games in 5 seasons with the Redskins (didn't miss a single game the last two seasons). The offensive line, on the other hand is a whole other story. It is one of the oldest units in the league and is losing its ability to be competitive fast. So thanks but no thanks, I would rather the Skins take a chance with an Andre Smith than risk Moreno/Harvin/Wells.

Tackle is definitely the top priority. Gibbs tried running Portis up the middle, and it was marginally successful. But then Zorn comes and in his first season Portis had his best YPC as a Redskin because he is a lateral runner/slasher. Compounded with the fact that Chris Samuels is 31 and has clearly lost a step, Jon Jansen is 33 and lost his job to someone who would start on less than 5 other teams in the league (Stephon Heyer), OT is definitely a higher need than guard.

I think Andre Smith would definitely open up space for Portis at right tackle. Orakpo (the big winner of the combine hype) is good, but he's not a game-breaker. And more of a DE rather than a LB. The redskins can make better use of the 13th pick with a player that can make a bigger impact.
I watched some tape on Monroe and he is definitely worth a top 5 pick with his pass protection skills. I haven't seen much of Jason Smith to make a good judgment yet. C Mack is solid, but not 1st round talent with the videos that I've seen.
DT Raji is a beast and is definitely the top player in the draft.
Watched Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing - and it looks like Maualuga has better instincts and football IQ. I don't know if Cushing belongs in the 1st or 2nd round yet. LB James Laurinaitis definitely is overrated by some experts and is not 1st round talent, let alone high 1st round IMO- I think he stays stationary too long when anticipating the rb instead of moving forward towards the rb to tackle. LB Aaron Curry is good but shouldn't be as high as some have him in the 1st round.
