KC had a solid draft last year, and Pioli will have them winning again in two years. You can take that to the bank.

Should be interesting to see if Pioli can have the same success without Belichick and vice versa.

Worst kept secret of the past few weeks. Good move by the Chiefs, not a hard division to turn things around in really quick.

Chiefs have the #3 pick.....30 million dollars under the cap....and now they have a GM that knows how to build a team.
They had a very good draft in 2008, DT Glenn Dorsey, OL Brandon Albert and CB Brandon Flowers are solid picks.
Unlike the Redskins the Chiefs kept all of their 2009 draft picks.
Now I see why Pioli picked the Chiefs. This guy is smart.

Big question: will he keep Herm Edwards?
There are alot of good coaches out there right now that might be tempted to listen to an offer from Pioli, Bill Cowher & Mike Shanahan to name a few.

That is a good question. I think Edwards has had enough time to prove himself, but Pioli might be the man that makes Edwards look like a genius. Think Pioli will make a play of Shanahan?

The rumor is that he'll probably let Edwards go. Word was if he was hired in Cleveland he really wanted Kirk Ferentz, but the Browns owner didn't want that. So now he might bring Ferentz to KC. Or maybe Spags?

As for the draft picks, nice job by the Chiefs last year. Let's see if they can repeat it

That is now the million dollar question: who will be the next coach of the Chiefs?
Once the available coaches look at KC's nice set up, there could be a feeding frenzy.
With al the cap space they have, they can really make a move. A good/proven QB or two will be easy to find in the 2009 FA market. That is one of their most glaring needs.
Plus the could draft one for the future, there a several good QB's coming out in this years draft. I feel like the 2009 draft will be a strong class.
I agree with you Smoot, Edwards must go. I never really liked what he did to the JEts and KC.

I think the word is that that Herm Edwards is out, it'll be interesting to see who will be the next coach. The Chiefs had a good team in the 90s, and I think they have the tools to become a good team again. The next question after who is going to be the coach will be who is going to be their QB. If they put a good team together, get a good coach, and a good QB as well, in such a weak conference, they could be a playoff team pretty soon.

On the ESPN boards, arrogant Patriots fans are already saying that losing Pioli is not a big deal and some of them are even saying that Pioli didn't do much for NE. Ugh, I swear Boston area sports fans are the worst. :boxing:

I didn't say he must go, I said he probably would. I don't know that he's entirely to blame. For all the talk of how the Redskins have failed at free agency with past their prime players, the Chiefs haven't done much better the past couple of years. They've brought in several big names with little to show for it. Ty Law, Patrick Surtain, Donnie Edwards, Napoloen Harris, Michael Bennett, Eddie Drummond, Kyle Turley, just to name a few.

And it was pretty apparent what they were trying to do, and I can't fault them for it, they were trying to put together a win now team because Lamar Hunt was dying. I'm not going to go so far as to say the Chiefs benefited from his death, far from it. But this past off-season is when you really started seeing a commitment to brining in some seriously good young talent that will probably win in that weak division sooner than later.

As for Pioli, unlike in New England, he finally has full final say over all personnel decisions. But it's interesting how impervious he is to criticism. All this talk about reportedly wanting Kirk Ferentz from Iowa, and no one is saying anything about the poor history of college coaches moving to the NFL.
