The move, per the team, will be made official on February 9, the first day that teams can make waiver requests. The Cowboys acquired Jones via trade from the Titans last year. He later was reinstated after being suspended for all of the 2007 season. Owner Jerry Jones assigned a 24-hour security detail to Jones in order to keep him out of further trouble. But Jones got into trouble by getting into a fight with one of the members of the security detail. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Jones for six more games. Jones appeared in nine games and started six for the Cowboys. On defense, he registered 31 tackles, seven passes defended, and no interceptions. He returned seven kickoffs for a 22.1-yard average, and 21 punts for a 4.5-yard average. He fumbled three times, forced a fumble, and scored no touchdowns. Though the specific reasons for the move are not yet known, owner Jerry Jones likely was concerned that, without constant babysitting, Jones won’t make it through an offseason without getting into trouble again. The fact that he’s soon to be unemployed could keep him in line, at least until he finds a new team. Wait, who are we kidding? We’re talking about Pacman Jones here. He’ll be riding in the backseat of a car with rear windows but no way to put them down before you know it. djnemo65 01-07-2009, 06:54 PM It's gonna be hard to make it rain with no job. At this point he'll be lucky if Burger King hires him. Paintrain 01-07-2009, 07:09 PM He'll be sharing a cell with Lawrence Phillips in 18 months. |
