Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009

This is just enough to sign our draftees i guess. Are there any players left to restructure to the point we could sign another FA olineman?

I think we have space to sign another lineman to a Dockery type contract, then still sign our rookies. We might not go that route though. We might instead choose to get a punter worth a darn, and then bring Khary Campbell and Demetric Evans back.

It's impossible to know what the team will do from this point forward, since it's just a matter of filling in a gap or two.

As for restructures, we could actually still save space by restructuring Rabach, cutting Thrash, or extending/restructuring/cutting Jason Taylor. The team has said though that Taylor will be back at his existing salary number. There's a section in the first post showing Other Ways To Reduce the Cap Number.

I think i heard they looked at hunter smith, but the money is pretty tight now.

if the deals were haynesworth (41/5 + .745 = 8.945) hall (22.5/5 + .745 = 5.245), and dockery (8.5/5 + .745 = 2.445) that's 16.635mill.

that's 5 years proration on bonuses + vet min for years in the NFL. If the bonuses are guaranteed, according the the rules for this year, they're either pro-rated, like the signing bonus, or count 100% or 50% towards 2009's cap (50% if the guaranteed money is to be paid after 2012). I don't know the status on at least 8mill of haynesworth's guarantees, so i'm assuming proration for now, since that's the smallest 2009 cap hit.

the 8mill might be some type of split bonus but i'm not sure you can call non-guaranteed money as part of the 41$mill guarantee.

Hunter Smith has interest in us, not sure how mutual it is at this point

Let me just add, if the Redskins were a baby in a burning building, James Thrash would rush in and save the Redskins.

Yea but he's the Rock Cartwright of the defense. He knows all the WR routes and is a great ST but if we don't use him or he keeps dropping balls like the rest then all he is, is a ST character type guy. Yes he's a team leader but he's taking a roster spot for just being a ST. No different then Rock. Rocks a nice kick returner and character guy but that's it. He sucks at RB with his one step forward two steps back, dancing in the back field. Rocks the type who loses 15-20 yrds then breaks a 40 or 50 yarder. Thats not what we need. besides he fumbles alot as a RB.

I like Thrash and was happy they brought him back, but if he's only being used in a one dimensional manner then cut him and get another tall young WR to groom by the WR coach who can't develope WR's. lol.

Do we have the room to sign someone like Crowell and Hunter Smith?

Anyone else a little concerned/surprised that we haven't signed Smith yet? I thought he would have been a no-brainer early FA signing. Oh well.

Yes. I find it hard to believe we're just going to stick with who we have. I'm not even sure of his name.

Even for a guy like Hunter Smith, Punter is just one of those positions that teams don't rush out to fill early in free agency. Interest in him at this point around the league has been kind of lukewarm, it will probably pick up later in the week once the dust settles some

our space is probably spent unless they want to redo taylor/rabach, cut thrash or taylor or whatnot.

k. campbell already got offered his deal by the skins i've heard, so he'll be back.

is todd collins really signed with us through 2013? man that seems like a long time to have him under wraps.

Taylor's deal may still get restructured. Campbell was offered a deal, but he's kind of like Demetric Evans in that he's looking to play (even start) so he's shopping himself around some. I think he'll be back though

i can't name a single team that'd start k campbell. he's really a teams player or sub's sub only... so i'm not too worried there.
