I can't believe we were only 4 mill under before the extra money came available. I me we were only a couple million over after Randel El and Carter were renogatiated. Griffin and Samuels did that little?

i think griffin got us 3 and samuels 2.5 or something.

and then our kicker signed his offer, that costs us 1mill and he's secured for next year. we have unsigned tenders for 1.5mill each to golston and montgomery right now i think too.

these guys have all gotten redone a million times though, so it's not like you can squeeze all that much out of those deals.

How in the H*** did we afford both those contracts?????

Seems like we must not have any room left (unless some cuts -SS, JT were made). With AH here, I think SS became expendable, but JT's play must necessarily get better, right??

Maybe Snyder knows a lil something something about there not being a cap next year and is spending now.

I explained in this post here (you're forgiven for not tracing back, it's a huge thread):

Since writing that post, I've realized how they've done it. By installing option bonuses in the second year of the contract, the Redskins were able to cleverly circumvent the 30% Rule. The option bonus doesn't count as salary, so they don't exceed the 30% inflation limit on base salaries.

So, to that guy's point, why would a player go for that? Trust. Dan Snyder sold them on the idea that while the bonus was technically an option bonus (for cap purposes), he had every intention of paying the player that money.

That's why Haynesworth contract says he'll get $32 million in the first 13 months. Notice they didn't say in the first year. He has a huge option bonus put in for 2010. I'm sure Danny has every intention of picking it up; it is clear the Redskins don't expect a salary cap in 2010.

Expected Signings - savings(hit)
Albert Haynesworth ($7.0)
DeAngelo Hall ($4.0)
Pete Kendall ($1.5)
Kedric Golston ($1.0)
Demetric Evans ($1.0)
Rookies ($2.5)
Players Removed from Top 51 $4.3
Total Expected Signings ($12.7)

Wow Schneed, that was a pretty good prediction so far. Haynesworth is in, Hall is in, Golston got tendered. We'll see about Kendall now that Dockery is on the market, but still, you must know what you're talking about.

Oh thanks Schneed. I just keep an eye on Canuck's cap sheets. Money talks, all I do is listen.

Now you have to wonder whether we'll cut Springs and Taylor if we find a worthy replacement for them in free agency.

If we cut them it would seem that we back in the thick of guys like Jason Brown and Dockery.

News has already come out that Taylor won't be going anywhere, he'll be staying for the full $8.5 million. That came from Taylor's agent who was told so by the team. One thing the Redskins absolutely do not do is go back on their word to agents. They know where their bread is buttered, they're very trustworthy in business dealings.

i'd like to see the actual numbers, and i don't think anyone thought hall + haynesworth was impossible or even unlikely, so i wouldn't be so up about that.

still, i read that all non-signing bonus guaranteed money is counted for 2009, so i don't see how they could call an option bonus guaranteed...

I'm not "up" about it. I'm taking digs at you for saying we needed 27 million in room to get all this done. I have absolutely no clue how you got that number.
