This is the worst tourcher for me ever, I am literally like an hour from getting on a bus and starting basic training, and it is gonna take me a while to find out what happened with Haynesworth and Hall! Hail to the Skins, and I will begin posting in 9 weeks!!!!

Are you at the Baltimore MEPS right now? Where are you going to Basic at?

The first post in this thread has been updated again. It reflects:

- Cornelius Griffin restructure, saving $3.0 million per JLC (again, pending a better number from CC).

- Montgomery and Suisham tenders, assumed to cost $1.0 million each.

I have us at roughly $11.8 million in space at the moment.

I disagree. JLC is reporting $15 million in guarantees is the ballpark for Hall. Going off that, no matter what length a deal you give him, you can only allocate that over 5 years. So the guarantee would count $3.0 million in 2009.

But you could still get around the 30% rule with an adequately lengthy contract, perhaps 6-8 years, allowing you to grow base salaries and include unguaranteed option bonuses in the out years. Perhaps the base salary in 2009 would have to be $1.5 million in order to keep with 30%, but I can't see it needing to be much higher than that. The absolute max cap hit for Hall would be $5.0 million, and I think closer to $4.0 is realistic given the 'Skins' ability to restructure/extend their other guys.

you seriously think a player is going to be under contract for 6-8 years just for cap purposes? 5 years means he's free at 30, instead of 32-33 (BIG difference). i think contracts over 6 years were made illegal too, but i'm not sure. I just really don't see him or his agent bending over backwards to help the skins after taking this long to get a deal done. Not to mention adding huge salaries on the end of a deal for ego is worthless to most players, since they want to actually get paid, and backloading our deal just makes our offer less competitive.

I think 5mill is more realistic, unless that option bonus is like, 20mill or something stupid.

So its my understanding that we are 12M under the cap now. We need 2.5M for draft picks, and we're probably tendering a few of our own guys, so lets say we save 3M for that. so that gives us 6.5M to work with.

Hall would cost us 4M against the 2009 cap. However, signing Hall likely means releasing springs, so if we made both those moves, we're still left with 9M to play with.

Lets say we do land Haynesworth. The experts here think this could be done and only cost us 7M against the 2009 cap. So that leaves us with 2M

But now Dockery is available and signing him would probably cost 3-4M against the cap. However, its my understanding that we could restructure Taylors contract and save 2M, leaving us right around the salary cap.

So, at the end of the day, if we made those moves, our entire defense would be in extremely good shape, with the only noteable vacancy at Strong Side LB.

On offense, we are set with the only noteable need for an upgrade at RT. (RG is also a need but i cant see anyone replacing Thomas this year, not with his contract).

If we don't go after Haynesworth or we decide to cut Taylor, i think its likely we have room to sign Canty, a WR such as Amani Toomer or Devery Henderson, and a LB.

I'd rather cut taylor than restructure him... he has no reason to redo his deal unless we offer him a shiny new deal (which would be a really bad idea).

canty is great, but at WR i rather have galloway, nate washington, or maybe even mike furrey. henderson has been a bit of a bust. speed and no hands, or whatnot.

If the contract is sufficiently backloaded or loaded with option bonuses, it doesn't matter how long the contract is. The player and player agent will know that when the salary/option bonus is scheduled to jump, the team has a decision to make: keep him or cut him. Either the player gets kept for a huge base salary (Jason Taylor this year) or cut and allowed to seek employment elsewhere. It's a win win for the player. DeAngelo Hall had a 7 year contract with the Raiders. Nate Clements signed an 8 year deal with the 49ers. Asomugha just reupped with the Raiders for 6 years.

In football players don't worry about long contracts because they're not guaranteed. If they actually play out the contract, they get friggin rich. If they get cut, they end up with another shot at a new contract.

the NFL Network has us at 8.1 mill. Does that include Daniels contract voided or will that be added at the start of free agency when it actually voids?

that or they're not updated on the restructuring (since it's adam schefter or whoever writing the piece, not the league office that necessarily tracks that in depth).

could be wrong though, but i think it might just be dated research.

Sounds about right. We had around $4 million in space right after releasing Marcus, and then everyone got the $4 million boost on top of that for the revised cap limit.

That's probably how they got to the $8.

We've since had several restructures.

I can't believe we were only 4 mill under before the extra money came available. I me we were only a couple million over after Randel El and Carter were renogatiated. Griffin and Samuels did that little?
