Or Vinny could go against Zorn's comments, get rid of Jason Taylor, and then we'd have plenty of cap space to be aggressive without mortgaging the future in a capped world.

But one thing's certain, we can't have our cake and eat it too. We have to choose between:

- Being quiet in free agency.

- Being active in free agency, keeping our vets like Springs and Taylor, and gambling with our future by extending contracts.

- Being active in free agency and shedding vets like Washington, Springs and Taylor.

There are a couple more contract restructures on the way

Any insight as to whether they involve adding years (extensions) or not?

Given what the market is like right now and our lack of picks/cap space, I think Zorn meant being active in free agency to add depth, or going after guys like Carey who can start right away and contribute, but who are not that expensive (i.e. Jordan Gross type money).

The top post in this thread has been updated to reflect the release of Marcus Washington. I have us at $3.6 million in cap space at the moment, pending an official calculation from CC.

We gained $4.5 million in space by cutting Washington, but doing so bumped him out of the top 51 and someone else into it (I'm making a preliminary assumption of $300K moving into the top 51).

I'm continuing to forecast that the Redskins create further cap space by either extending Springs and Taylor, or flat out cutting one or both of them. The additional cap space gained from this would only really allow them to re-sign/tender their own free agents and sign their own draft picks. I'm still not seeing how an "active" free agency (per Zorn) is possible, unless you count re-signing Demetric Evans, DeAngelo Hall, Pete Kendall, tendering Golston Monty and Doughty, and signing a kicker as an active free agency.

It should be noted though that Phillip Daniels' contract is due to void before free agency starts. The team could elect to allow that to happen, let him sit on the market, and eventually bring him back at vet minimum. Doing this would free up about $1.0 - 1.5 million in cap space.

You must be a joy to go shopping with :). We can buy this couch, but doing so would assume X amount being moved to the kitchen renovation, but if we wait until June 1...

One thing that hasn't been mentioned much is that some teams (don't know which) have apparently expressed some interest in Montgomery and Golston, the Redskins could work out essentially a sign and trade with those guys as they are RFAs. So it's kind of like when the Redskins traded Bryan Johnson (who was an UDFA) to Chicago for a 6th rounder. Monty and/or Golston would likely command a higher pick.

That's probably going to happen. JLC mentioned restructuring Samuels and Griffin as options. That's possible. I've heard some contracts will be restructured just hadn't heard which.

One another note Schneed, they're not going to tender Doughty so he's pretty much gone.

Curious about this move... does it possibly mean the FO and Springs are talking seriously about him moving to safety (and staying in DC obviously)?

So how does this work out for picks? Since we drafted Doughty and he is let go then what do we get if anything?
