But for God sakes people, ask yourselves, are the Redskins THAT bad?

in a word, yes

This is nuts. Not to crap on you GTripp, because I know you wrote this and are just passing on some rumors. But trade rumors are just that, rumors. And most the time there's either nothing to them, or they never get anywhere because nobody's willing to meet the ask price.

I might make all of the above moves if I were totally dismantling my team and starting from scratch. But for God sakes people, ask yourselves, are the Redskins THAT bad? Is the team as currently comprised THAT incapable of winning? Hell, it was only like 10 weeks ago that this team as currently comprised was 6-2. There's no logic in tearing this team down at this time.

The rumors get out of hand because Vinny says the team is looking to acquire draft picks, and so all of a sudden every player is being shopped (even the affordable ones like Betts and Golston). I don't buy it for a minute, the money talks a lot louder than any rumor.

No they're definitely not. Just your typical fan overreactions at play here. Everyone wants to play GM this time of year. Some would want you think we are the Raiders or Lions. Not even close.

good quote, but i have heard other things. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. I am very interested to see what a Kareem Moore/Landry tandem looks like.

You would bet your future on a player kareem moore that has never started an NFL game at any position? Are you Vinny Ceratto?

I definitely don't think all those guys would or should be traded. But offseason rumors are always hard to really judge, primarily because nearly every team is doing their due diligence and floating names out there amongst their peers to gauge interest. I think the Redskins have at least entertained the idea of trading some of the names mentioned simply because those are the names that are probably getting the most interest in return. Betts, Rogers, and Moss that is.

If I were to guess, I'd say...

Rogers: Not a serious candidate to be traded unless they are blown away by a ridiculous offer. I think this is more a case of "how valuable is this guy?"

Moss: Most likely to be traded

Golston: If someone else offers him a better deal in the RFA market, they won't work too hard to keep him

Horton: Not going anywhere

Betts: His value is continuing to decline, so the Redskins need to decide if they are truly committed to making him part of the team or are there teams out there (Colts, Chargers?) that may be interested.

I agree.
But we are not that good either. The teams results on the field regressed in 2008.

No, i wouldnt bet my future on him - i'd have springs back there as well. However Landry is being "wasted" at FS and i dont beleive Horton or Landry will ever realize their full potential as long as both of them are on the team. If the skins did trade Horton for a 2nd rounder, they could use that second rounder on a DT who would hopefully start from day 1. If we have a front 4 that can put pressure on the QB, we would be more than fine with Rogers and Hall at CB, Landry at SS, and Springs/Moore/Green at FS.

We definitely over-achieved in our first 8 games. The skins were never as good as some fans thought they were. They were then what they are now - a mediocre team. Unfortunately, we are a mediocre team that, as you pointed out, is regressing. To turn the team around we need to forget about the present (to an extent) and make some sacrifices that will help this team in the long-term.

It's a good thing that we have all of these good players in the secondary. Just remember that one of these guys is just an injury away from being a starter regardless. I say keep the dept there if we can. If we can keep Springs and Smoot on the cheap keep them too.

I wish we could say that abou the lines. Nobody is going to give us anything for our O or D line guys. I'm for trading Moss and Betts as long as it's a damn good deal. If not we've not really lost anything. If they hadn't signed CP to such a big deal then he'd be trade material too.

I think the main point that some are missing is that, while I believe all of those trades are possibilities, there is a zero percent chance that every one of those five players gets traded. It's not a fire sale here. One, maybe two trades at most. There's got to be a player market, and just because the Skins are shopping them does not at all mean that they'll get what their asking for. In fact, you usually ask for something that no one plans to give you, so that in the case a desperate team bites, you win the trade easily.

Horton played really, really poorly against the pass down the stretch. He's almost as bad as Doughty against it. Unlike Doughty, he's a poor pass rusher. Where Horton makes up for that all is his unbelievable closing speed against the run. Teams really started taking advantage of him in the play action game, because he bites so badly on run fakes, and his guy tends to be wide open.

I mean, let's face it, a second rounder for one of the last picks in the draft last year is a HUGE steal. You don't even think about it. Is anyone that desperate to get a safety who cannot cover? Highly doubt it. Horton will be back, and likely in the starting lineup next year, but he's got a lot to work on in the off-season.
