The Redskins season poll ...PennSkinsFan 12-30-2008, 04:52 PM Ok Warpath, give our polls some love! DC Pro Sports Report (http://www.dcprosportsreport.com) PennSkinsFan 12-30-2008, 04:54 PM I put disappointed for one reason. Losses to St. Louis, Cincy and SF. If we lost to tougher teams and finished 8-8 OK, but the easier teams on the schedule, those are the games good teams win. Even if you lose one of them, but all three????? MTK 12-30-2008, 05:22 PM It's disappointing anytime you don't make the playoffs, but coming into this year I was thinking 9-7, maybe 10-6, so in the end I have to say it was about what I expected. No doubt. I think everyone adjusted their expectations after a 6-2 start, however the finished product was about what I thought. I've been saying 8-8 / 9-7 since OTAs. SBXVII 12-30-2008, 05:55 PM Disappointed. Hail to the Redskins 12-30-2008, 06:06 PM I gotta say, I have a completely different opinion than most in that this whole "We finished with a record close to what I thought we'd have before the season" vision. I just feel like there there are certainly different types of 9-7s and 8-8s. Last years 9-7 was fantastic as the team got BETTER and gelled at the end of the season, making a great run into the playoffs. You also have an 8-8 team like the Houston Texans or even the 7-9 49ers who finished the season strongly with a rookie coach. Then you have an 8-8 after your team finished the first half of their season 6-2. OK, let's forget the 6-2 start as the collapse started after the first 5 games. We played, in my opinion, a TOUGHER early schedule as we played IN New York, Dallas, & Philadelphia, as well as playing high-flying offenses like the Arizona Cardinals & New Orleans Saints and came out 4-1!! As we finished the rest of the season 4-7, it was obvious that the rest of the NFL COMPLETELY figured out Zorn's offense and shut down the passing game the rest of the season... and eventually the run game as well. I can't put the whole blame on the o-line for this one as the ONLY starter we missed down the stretch was Samuels (who is much maligned on here most times)... Jansen & Heyer were switching out early when we were running all over everyone. By the end of the season, teams had that redundant "stretch play" SHUT DOWN. After this good start winning some tough games, we lose to the Rams, struggle with the Browns and Lions, lose in bad fashion at home to NYG & Dallas, lose a must-win game vs the BUNGLES, and then lose a "we're playing this like it's the playoffs" game vs the 49ers. The "rookie HC" thing... I don't know... I mean, shouldn't a rookie HC start 2-6 and finish 6-2, showing improvement in how his new system is taking hold?? Not get progressively worse and worse? Now, we are team that isn't sure where to go. Are we a few pieces from a Super Bowl run? Are we rebuilding? And on top of that, Zorn has come out and said that he will remain the HC, QB coach, and play-caller for next year... All of that to me adds up to the "BAD 8-8"... not the "I can't WAIT 'til next year 8-8"... I'm just saying... this 8-8 is not the "isn't this what you'd expect with a rookie HC with this talent?" kind to me. I know I am sounding extremely pessimistic, but I almost think it IS time to just completely rebuild on offense with players who fit Zorn's WCO and can run it efficiently, while replacing all of the aging parts on D, so that perhaps a 7-9 or 8-8 next season is more like the Texans or 49ers... I'd be fine with a BIG youth movement, even if it means we aren't seriously thinking Super Bowl for a couple of years... it certainly beats the mediocrity (7-9, 8-8, 9-7 playoff losers) we've had for a WHILE. And when was the last time we tried to rebuild, not "reload"? You are right on! The Season poll needs to have that as a fourth choice. |
