I was thinking the same thing. As soon as the Skins were out of the wildcard race, I noticed some people changed their avatars to different teams..

But I digress...

Let me understand here...

Antonio Peirce played here - - more than acceptably - - and his contract time came up.

He did not like the Skins' offer. So he went elsewhere.

Someone said the Giants' offer was the same as the Skins' offer. I don't know that but let's assume it is true. If so, Antonio Pierce is awfully smart. Given two offers that are the same, he took the one that got him a Super Bowl ring.

He thinks the Skins did not show him respect. He's allowed to think that. And if you look at the history that the Redskins have with players/team employees who leave here, "lack of respect" is a fairly common theme.

Now, in 2008, Antonio Pierce seems to have delved into the depths of slime in his personal life. You can skewer him for that. But for a player to have made a decision to play for a team other than the Redskins when he did was not something you can blame him for. Like I said, he's got a ring. None of his teammates who stayed here have one.

Oh, by the way, if Pierce had stayed here, the Skins would not have signed London Fletcher and lots of fans would not have had the opportunity to idolize Fletcher. After all, if he hadn't come here, Fletcher would just be some pompous ass who was bitching about not making the Pro Bowl...

I don't know. The way Pierce handled his departure from the Skins was pretty lame. He had one good year for us, and just because we didn't throw the entire bank at him, he bitched about it.

The deals offered were very similar except NY gave him more money up front.

I hate Pierce. After no other team in football thought he was worth squat, the Redskins decided to take a chance on him by signing him to their practice squad, and after years of investing in his development, he turned into a pro-bowl caliber MLB. Then, when the Skins decided not to give him an obnoxiously outrageous contract, he angrily claimed he was being disrespected, then went to a rival and talked sh*t about the Skins to anyone who would listen. After leaving the Skins for more money (which is perfectly acceptable, after all it is a business), he should have been on his knees thanking the Redskins for giving him his career, and harboring no ill will. But instead, he acted like a spoiled crybaby.

That being said, the guy's a 30 year old, millionaire professional athlete. Are we honestly going to waste time with inflated indignancy over a fun time he was having in a strip club? C'mon, that's ridiculous.
Good post Coff. I agree. We took him as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona I believe and I was actually impressed with his "mean streak". I like that, to a point, in a linebacker. Gibbs gave him his shot when he let Jeremiah Trotter go and he left the next year. I have since lost respect for him, not just because he left, but because he just basically comes off as a jerk.

When he was drafted and played for the Skins his first 2 years I loved the guy. Then he started hearing how "smart" he was, became a free agent and his head swelled up, moved to NY and his head went from "swollen" to "stupid" and there you have it. It's amazing what money will do to a person's ego. Screw him!!!

I hope his wife takes all his money!!

This isn't the first time a player has left for "BUSINESS RESONS"... this is their living and they (the players) must do what is best for them.If I'm not mistaken you guys took Griffen from us,right, why is that?
