Smootsmack/Matty:

Come on now. There are certain writers/websites who are sure to be screeched at around here most of the time - - but when they write something nice about the Redskins, everyone believes what they say and are appreciative of the nice comments. Examples:

Pro Football Talk (Some here say that their batting average on their rumors isn't very good. I wonder if anyone were to calculate the critics' batting average on predictions such as what free agents will sign here or who the next coach will be if the critics' batting average is nearly as good as PFT.)

Sally Jenkins (When she wrote nice things about Zorn earlier this year, did people here say she was wrong and didn't know what she was saying. I don't recall those posts...)

Len Pasquarelli (He has said many more nice things about the Skins than folks here have said about him.)

Well you had orginally said PFT so let's just focus on that. I honestly can't recall more than a handful (if even that) of people here saying "Wow, PFT just said something good about us. They're so awesome."

Secondly, what "critics" are you referring to in regards to predictions?

Thirdly, it should be obvious what PFT's true value is. It's basically a one-stop shop for information. When they have something with substance to say they will be sure to give due credit. For example, "Bernie Mislakz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports..." (with a link). But they shouldn't get credit for scooping anything there. And that's not the same as "PFT is hearing rumors...."

If you'd like to start a spread sheet sometime in Jan 09 regarding the predictions people here make about who will be signed by the Redskins in free agency and then match it against reality, you'll find the batting average is pretty low - - not good enough to bet in the Baseball HoF. I'm not talking about people saying who they would LIKE to sign; I'm talking about predictions about what the team will do.

PFT is mainly a clearing house - - but they do break stuff once in a while and for an operation that is ever so slightly smaller than ESPN and FOX Sports, that would indicate to me that they do have some sources of their own.

Regarding current stuff, PFT is providing a far more in depth and understandable analysis of the StarCaps case than you will find at ESPN sites or at FOX sites. They are probing Ed Werder's story about the Cowboys intrigues looking to identify the source; Werder and ESPN aren't doing that.

PFT "broke" and followed through on the "Chris Landry plaigiarism" business.

PFT's coverage of the lawsuit by retired NFL players against the NFLPA and the subsequent findings about the NFLPA assets has been far better and far more extensive than anywhere else I've seen.

PFT was all over the story of the Rooney brothers being involved in gambling interests - - in violation of NFL rules -- long before that story got any national attention.

That list is off the top of my head, so there could well be some other "gems" in their postings over the past couple of months.

I am NOT saying that PFT is all good or that it is "THE place to go for NFL news". It is not. But to say that everything they post there is fabricated nonsense is simply not the case. And that is what many folks here say...

I have been reading PFT for about 4-5 years now, more now than before. It seems to me that when I started reading PFT, they just printed anything and everything football related regardless of authenticity - is it an unsubstantiated rumour, is it football related? let's print it.

More recently, it seems that they have gotten better about verification and moved away from the print everything and anything past.

If the Redskins would get rid of a certain running back, they would be a much better team.

Thats what some fans wrote in letters to the sports editor in Sunday's Post (I have the early edition). The sports editor this if this team had any kind of front office it would have suspended him since this is his second incident of throwing teammates & coaches under the bus. Even JT said if a player had said that about him in public he'd have shipped him to TX A&M. Unfortunately JZ doesnt have that luxury as with this disfunctional organization CP knows he works for DS and not JZ (the FOs mute response in support of it coach speaks volumes). Until that is fixed the Skins will be the Raiders of the east.

Zorn and CP have gotten over this incident.

Zorn inherited this team and most of the coaches. Gibbs left knowing that this team wasn't going to do anything this season. Zorn's done the best he can with an ok team. Most pundits listed the Redskins as a big-time loser this season. Predictions of 4-12 were out there.

Ppl have forgotten how bad Gibbs I started out; how bad Gibbs II started out; how bad Spurrier's team was in the second half of his last season - before he quit - but was not fired.

Danny Synder is locked in the Zorn for 3 seasons. Anything less and the NFL will consider him even more fickle, weird and just a rich owner with no football sense - then he already is.

Players like a coach who wins. When you start losing their will be unhappiness. Zorn and Vinny need to cut away the old players who can't cut it in the NFL any longer.

Portis has lost a lot of respect in my book. The coaches or the players cannot do but so much about his self-centered outbursts because of his relationship with Snyder, but one thing he can't control, or Snyder for that matter, is the fans. I think Portis should know that the fans do not appreciate his selfish tirades, and not being popular with the fans is not going to keep his relationship with Snyder at the lovey-dovey stage he enjoys so much now. By all means....speak up.
