The future is almost written. Playoff hope is leaving us and early.

If this was a next year or years after, would this be acceptable? NO

I think I know what could save this team or win or increase effeciency mostly from the offseason to midseason I think our mechanics that assemble this team leave alot of "'Splaining to Do" I would like to open up what you guys think needs to be done to win. If other teams do it and do it well we need some of that. Are we cursed ? No. But we are going about it wrong to be just average.

Our Identity either isn't being trusted to win games or isn't being acknowledged for what it is and we are counterproductive.

Zorn's West Coast is highly criticized and is on record for what it can do for debate in the offseason (Since our playoff chance is over might as well begin)

I am believing that in training camp Zorn will be demonstrating to all he is a great Teacher. I think we need a few good students.

1.WR
In the form of a WR we need a tall possesion guy. I dont have answers where or who but its evident Moss needs a big guy to take the pressure off him. ARE I'm sorry but bye. How much $ is he being paid? Some of that was with the dimension and promise that he could be a return specialist. Not used on KR he is horrendous at PR. Thomas/Kelly would be great for 3,4 in the lineup as Thrash is aging and 3,4 WR's would eventually have to be and do special teams routinely as Thrash survives roster cuts annually for just this.

2. We need to be a team that refers to incoming players as fitting the scheme. I'd rather hear that b/c when they do, than, we can say they know their role. And with that we work together toward a team goal and trust/heart get formed b/c they know the system and more can be risked b/c they execute.

3.Other teams do this and w/o the insane FA contracts to anybody like we have done they have cap room and weather the storm of lack luster talent by grooming/raising young talent within- like the RAVENS have done. They rarely go shopping but draft well and have MVP's.

4. QB-I'll leave alone other than, expect Collins to retire please so we can actually have a realistic #2 should danger arise. We don't want to skip a beat. The Patriots would be punchlines like the Lions w/o Kassel

5. OL-We have aging guys past their heyday. RT JJansen is horrible. He is a Skins Legend but thats a memory. I hope we have a succesor in Rhinehardt. Lets get a RT for now and maybe a Guard or Center and put them in the Bugel stable when we need them down the road. Again to fit our athletic/physical run/pass blocking would require them to be.

6. Defense
Is tough. Ultimately I think if we are tough against the run in the middle we should build around that. There just isnt enough Griffins to go around and if we could have GOLSTON/MONTGOMERY mixed into 1 guy we would be golden but I don't see KG/AM as premier but great depth guys, and real SKINS.
DE-JTaylor has paid no dividens and he came for a 2nd pick and some crazy salary but doesn't play the run and is past his heyday and likely future success at pass rushing that he once was. In hindsight we should have taken the Ravens approach and trusted Wilson, Evans, and we did have James too look forward to to get healthy and experiment to weather the storm for us but we got JT b/c we thought we were contenders, why? b/c old habits are hard to break. Even fish respond to some dazzling light or attraction in the water and oops sh%# were fished hooked. I just have forgotten what a front 4 pass rush looks like.
Does anyone remember Manley/Mann?
WLB- MWashington thanks man,I hope you find someone with less of a need than we have for that posistion b/c your not productive to us. This is a misbalance in our LB's. Rocky is the Blitzing LB but has speed in his backpeddle. MW is far from his heyday b/c of unexplainable talent loss and britable bones/muscles. I'd rather pay $ for a worthwhile likelyhood of the player giving back for our investment in him.
CB-Lets keep Hall, if he likes us he will settle cheaper if not Springs will have to finally adhere that he is being paid way to much to be sidelined. He really stonewalled us the past 2 years almost like Marbury saying "No they are going to pay me every $ promised"

K-SUisham should be the first to go....thought I forget you SS. With a girlie leg on Kickoffs and the few times we need him for FG's he shanks it he's out. I wouldn't be disappointed if we went after a Kicker like many cried about with Brooks (Brooks had credentials and despite Frost being a fan favorite for his tackles made he shanked them in pressure situations and field posistion was a big factor in our loss to Seattle in January)

I don't know what else. I want leadership in our coaches/Mgt. that displays they know what they are doing instead of constant looking at the directions and hiring consultants to tear down the prior year so that the message is clear our goal is to be this and progress is displayed in promise while we succeed rather than preseason propaganda.

I know its long I dont even read this much of other people but what do we do??? How do we get to have a 4th ring?

Easy. Get a good offensive and defensive line. Maybe a faster OLB to train in place of Washington. And for the love of God, a second string receiver so we can push ARE into the slot. Maybe Devin Thomas can step into that role next season. I'm almost ready to say to not even look into receivers during the off-season and work with what we've got. I'm tired of dumping money into that position and letting the rest of the positions go to crap.

I would prefer they hop Rt28 to Rt66. Then hit I495 to I95 North to Baltimore. Not sure how long it will take but for them it's probably the shortest route.

i think coming to the conclusion that kelly and thomas are 3 and 4 recievers is crazy. you could be right in time but i dont think we missed on both of them, at least one will pan out and be the number 2 and someday number 1 guy or guys. i think we are developing a number 2 in colt brennan....hes not ready yet but will be i am sure, cassel was a number 3 then became a number 2 after flutie retired....so i think we are taking that step......i think we will address the oline and dline through the draft again on the oline and free agent market on the dline......montgomery is a bonafide starter in this league, hands down, he makes olinemen look like rag dolls you just need to pay closer attention to that instead of watching the skill players.......or look at the rushing stats when he is in the game. but all in all i think this is an over reaction, i also think we are not out of the playoffs yet.....and your assesment on jason taylor sounds like Jason La Confora....he played fine against the run against the giants on sunday and i think his pass rush will come around by seasons end.....one thing agree with is KICKER we need one and bad.

build from the trenches out. name me one successful team that isn't rock solid on both sides of the ball.Pittsburgh is pretty awful on the OL, but then again, they are pretty terrible on offense.

Indianapolis seems like the exception to the rule here.

I agree, if you can be good in the trenches, the wins will continue to come. Getting good and staying good in the trenches seems to be the hard part: every team strives for it, but a lot of teams just can't accomplish it no matter how many resources they invest in it (Oakland).

I definitely think we could get closer if we invest more in it. Also, Blache needs to give them a fighting chance, and use the blitz as a change up instead of a defensive scheme in and of itself. We might actually be good on the DL, but it's tough to get pressure on the QB when you blitz as often as the Redskins do.

Good writeup!

Marcus Washington is gone - broken down -thanks for the memories but needs to be replaced.

S. Springs is gone - way too much money for the amount he plays. We need that $7 million for other positions.

I suggest that ST Coach Danny Smith will be replaced. All parts of the ST are below average or worse. this part of the team will be blown up with replacements at PR, KO and possibly kicker and Punter. We need youth and consistency here.

We need to use our top draft picks for the DL and OL. We've avoided that for many, many years but the unglamorous part of football must get some draft attention.

I suggest either Moss or ARE will be dropped. Too much money for the production. I think it will be ARE. Hope one of the rookies can fill in. I think we'll look for a veteran WR to come just in case the rookies don't pan out next season. Thrash is gone. I like him but his time has come.

Mr Redskin:

WR: They needed to upgrade this position last year; they tried in the draft but it hasn't worked. They still need an upgrade. If they go with what they have and IF the "young pups" dont get a whole lot better by next September, this will be a HUGE problem.

Sadly, the Skins have a history of drafting/signing players with "headline value" and that does not necessarily fit the definition of a player who fits the scheme or the team need. A change of focus there would be nice... just like it would be nice if the statues on Mt Rushmore smiled more.

OL: Needs new blood. Heyer is still a work in progress. Please note: not every work in progress is successfully completed! For everyone who likes to think that the Skins retain their "identity" as a smashmouth team, you had better not root for Heyer to play RT. If he's there and it's third and two, you can bet the defense will load up over on the left side of the formation. As to Rhinehart, he was a first-day draft pick; and so far this year, it seems as if the rule is that he will see the field only after every other offensive lineman on the squad is in an ICU somewhere. Frankly, that's not promising if you are looking at him to provide lots of help next year.

DL: The Skins have not had a top-shelf DT since Dave Butz retired. They have plugged in this guy and that guy and schemed here and schemed there. They need a top-shelf DT and there is not one on the roster.

Taylor's performance so far this year is disappointing but he did have surgery and he is in his mid-30s. What bothers me is his big cap number for next year... Carter is a good DE. The other guys on the roster who play DE are adequate and nothing more. Realistically, you can hope they will be "average" some day.

LB: Agree that Marcus Washington has lost two steps and his experience/savvy isn't enough to make up for that. I am less enamored with Blades and Rocky than others here. I think Blades makes far too many mistakes that result in 20-yard plays and Rocky is a step late to make a big play at least a half-dozen times a game. These two will do in a pinch but the real concern ought to be London Fletcher who is getting along in years. Who is on the roster to play behind him? You want to talk about a position where the backup is a big step down from the starter...

CB: We will have to disagree on Hall. I think he is marginal as a cover corner and is certainly not a "big-hitter". I suspect they will groom Springs to play safety next year alongside Landry and use Smoot/Hall/Rogers as the CB rotation when they want 3 corners on the field and use Springs/Landry/Horton when they want 3 safeties. What they do with Tryon is of no concern at all to me.

Getting a new punter and kicker would be a good idea - - but you don't really need to draft anyone at these positions unless there is a "Ray Guy clone" out there. There isn't.
