Redskins Should Retire #21 | DC Pro Sports Report -- Sports news, stats and analysis from the capital of the free world (http://dcprosportsreport.com/?p=1964)

Realizing that the Washington Redskins franchise does not retire uniform numbers, this is a different case. Sean Taylor was not only producing great football memories, in for tragically shortened career, but his tragic death affected nearly every redskin fan emotionally. We all know the Redskins franchise will never give out #21 again. We know that. We know that the Redskins have ever retired only one jersey number. We know the Redskins franchise has an aversion to retiring jersey numbers. But, this is a special case, this is different, this is appropriate. There is not one single Redskin fan out there that ever wants to see any other player where #21. Nor do I believe the Redskins franchise wants any player to ever wear #21 again. It is time to make it permanent. Sean Taylor is forever #21.

im i the minority. i don't think his number should be retired. i kind of like how the skins do the number deal. plus, Taylor was only here 4 seasons?

Instead of official retirement, I prefer that we just add 21 to the list of numbers "out of circulation", which currently include 7, 9, 28, 44, and 81. Taylor will always be 21 in the hearts of Skins fans.

It already is. No need to retire the jersey.

I see both sides of the argument. Sean was a fantastic football player for the Redskins in his short time here. He touched so many people in the area and played football the way many of us dream the other players would. he was taken from the Redskin family way..way. to early. I am for the retirement of his jersey in that respect.

but am also for taking it out of circulation because look at all the other Redskin greats that have not had their jersey retired. Namely Monk and Green. Riggins was a great redskin as well. we could go on down the list, but in a way its unfair for them to not have theirs retired before Seans.

We should just retire all of their numbers. Riggins, Green, Monk etc. etc. Who care none of these numbers are ever going to go out again so retire them make it official. Essentially, its the same thing. Also, I don't want to hear this whole Sean only played for us for four years. Name me a better Safety that ever played for the skins. Its ok I'll wait Ya still thinking? I'm sure because Taylor is the best Safety to ever suite wear a Redskin uniform so four years or not retire the number. He would have been a first ballot Hall of Famer if he wasn't murdered. But I do think he will get in eventually!!!!

Don't forget 11 and 56 :D but in all seriousness I would also like to see Sean Taylor's 21 added to the numbers out of circulation, which already seems to have taken place.

All the other Redskin greats didn't die a tragic death. That's the difference.
