I think LA is crying sour grapes but I do think there is a grain of truth in what he says about Gibbs coming back for the $ for his NASCAR team.
Lavar Arrington calls Joe Gibbs a Cowardirish 11-12-2008, 10:09 AM I think LA is crying sour grapes but I do think there is a grain of truth in what he says about Gibbs coming back for the $ for his NASCAR team. cpayne5 11-12-2008, 10:19 AM LaVar kind of reappeared on the scene here in DC at Sean Taylor's funeral. If you recall, LaVar spoke of rebuilding bridges that had been burned during his divorce from the team. He said all of this with tears in his eyes (which I felt were fake). I never heard where he was close to Sean like the other speakers at his funeral; it just felt weird to me that he was even speaking at all up there. He spoke vaguely and in generalities, not specifics, about his relationship with Sean. I just felt that his entire "speech" was a sham and a fraud. It felt to me like it was a desperate attempt to grab attention by someone who had fallen out of the spotlight. I feel that this latest episode is an extension of that. He's trying to make himself relevant when he knows he no longer is. The same thing with the restaurant. "If I build a huge restaurant and put my name on it, everyone will want to come here and be my friend." IMO, he has issues; probably in much the same way most NFL players do (at some level), but LaVar has manifested his in a disgusting fashion thus far. cpayne5 11-12-2008, 10:23 AM I think LA is crying sour grapes but I do think there is a grain of truth in what he says about Gibbs coming back for the $ for his NASCAR team. I don't believe that at all. JG's NASCAR team has made Joe Gibbs a very very wealthy man. He makes more with NASCAR than he ever did with football. Even with the $5.5million salary he pulled with the Skins from 04-07. MTK 11-12-2008, 10:53 AM The thought that Gibbs came back for the money is pure BS. At his age he didn't need to come back to 18 hour days and the stress and pressure that comes along with running a NFL team for a paycheck. The thought of that just goes against everything the man is about. JoeRedskin 11-12-2008, 11:01 AM I think LA is crying sour grapes but I do think there is a grain of truth in what he says about Gibbs coming back for the $ for his NASCAR team. And where would you find that grain? Do you have any evidence that JGR was in need of cash? skinsnut 11-12-2008, 11:13 AM Arrington is an idiot. Gibbs is high class, always has been, always will be. Lavar is confusing courage and testosterone. Gibbs is filled with courage, Lavar is only filled with testosterone. Only one of these fades with age. Grow up Lavar....you just weren't that great....and, you sucked at taking coaching, which explains why you were often out of position....that spells A-R-R-O-G-A-N-C-E. Gibbs doesn't like arrogant, uncoachable players, I'd cut you too unless you'd take situational pass rusher money....which you didn't! I used to listen to Lavar, now I have lost all respect for anything that comes out of your mouth...you IDIOT!!! And this is 5 pages because calling Gibbs a Coward by an ex SKIN is BETRAYAL and completely bogus. Gibbs is the best coach the Skins ever had. He had nothing to gain and everything to lose to come back...yet he risked his good name to bring respectability back to the Skins....that is certainly not what a coward would do. irish 11-12-2008, 11:17 AM I recall reading in various publications that Gibbs racing wasnt going broke by any means but it wasnt a cash cow either. Racing is a very expensive sport and Snyder made Gibbs an offer he couldnt refuse. Dont get me wrong, I dont think that the only reason Gibbs came back was to get $ for his race team but I do think the $ was a major factor in his return to coaching. As for LA, I agree with cpayne. This is LA trying to get himself back in the media and make himself somehow relevant again. He does have issues some of which hurt him in becoming the great LB that we all thought he would be. skinsnut 11-12-2008, 11:25 AM Warrick Holdman was a better option at outside linebacker than LaVar Arrington. I think you just nailed the source of the bitterness here. At least Holdman did what his coaches said to do...Arrington did not play within the scheme and couldn't be trusted on the field. firstdown 11-12-2008, 11:29 AM LaVar kind of reappeared on the scene here in DC at Sean Taylor's funeral. Ok, I get that people do not like what LA said about Gibbs and I understand that but all the other attacks are getting bad. Most bashing him here for his play on the field used words such as "BEAST" to describe his play on the field. A bunch of people here were ticketed that he was not on the field more often and spoke out against GW and the front office. Now the same people are using the words like OVERATED and such just to bash him some more. Now we have moved it to ST death and how LA felt about ST. Who knows maybe LA has tried to patch thing up with Snyder but maybe Snyder holds the grudge. Its not like we have never seen Snyder do that before. CPAYNE5 you say you never heard LA say how close he was to ST in his speach but the little part I found it seem as he did. LaVar: [He started by speaking of how he is "guilty of moving on," in football, in life, not taking the time to look back.] "This situation has forced me to face those issues that sometimes you really don't want to face. You imagine that your boys and your loves ones are okay and always will be. Sean, I love you as my brother, as my friend ... the rest of my fellows and my teammates that I never took the opportunity to tell you how much I love you guys, this is the opportunity to do it. I'm going to miss him with all my heart. ... I thought when he came to the Redskins that I was his guardian angel. I know he was one of my guardian angels. He was there for me. Today, he's one of mine." After a song, Sean's 14-year-old sister, Jazmin Taylor spoke through tears. "All I want to see is his smile again. He had the best smile in the world." ... and "I know he can hear me. I'm waiting to see you again, but I know you are home." skinsfan69 11-12-2008, 11:32 AM I recall reading in various publications that Gibbs racing wasnt going broke by any means but it wasnt a cash cow either. I agree with you. I think it was a factor too. But everyone is in it for the money. The NFL is big business. Joe Gibbs is a businessman and a very smart one. He got his extra sponsor with Fed Ex. If you ask me it was a smart as hell move on his part. But it's not like he was sitting around and working 8 hour days. |
