"I always said — even when I played there — if we could ever get this guy to play within the scheme, study, and be a professional, he probably could be the most dangerous player in the league," Trotter said.

Arrington told the Times that Penn State coach Joe Paterno was responsible for the freelancer tag.

"Joe Paterno started the whole thing of me being a freelancer and it has continued through my whole career unwarranted," Arrington said. "I've been called a freelancer doing what I was asked to do. If I ran into any gap I wanted, how long would you keep me in the game?

(Former defensive coordinator) Marvin Lewis said, 'LaVar ran around like a chicken with his head cut off until I got here.' But I made a Pro Bowl before he got here."

Where there's smoke there's fire, generally. Three separate players/coaches all say the same thing. You know that x-girlfriend that always seemed to be in a crisis...that's LA.

[QUOTE=sportscurmudgeon;499800]It always seemed to me that Joe Gibbs 2.0 was at least as much about the money going into the Joe Gibbs bank account as it was about winning football games in DC. So, maybe Arrington has a point there...QUOTE]

If that is the case then why did he leave 5 mil and a possible extension worth 20+ more millions on the table last year? It seems to me that someone in it for the money would not have turned down that kind of cash. Joe Gibbs turned down countless opportunities to return to coaching over the years and only came back when the Redskins asked him too.

Good point. He could have returned at any point during his 11 year layoff and there would have been countless teams waving blank checks in front of him.

I think it confirms what we may already know about LaVar, he's got a touch of crazy in him.

Matty sounds like to me he has a bit of the stupid in him,.....I wonder how well he knows Tiki?:)

Exactly...and he's friends with Arthur Blank of the Falcons and he tried to hire him for years. Joe Gibbs return to the Redskins had very little to do with money. I guess if you want to you could criticise Joe Gibbs 2.0 the coach...but Joe Gibbs character and integrity as a man could never be questioned.

I think the money was the final factor that drew Gibbs back out of retirement. I'm sure 1 or 2 million and Gibbs would have never left his racing team, 3 million HMMMM, 4 to 5 By George Snyder we have a deal and then he lets out that quirky laugh.

Gibbs put his reputation on the line to come back to a team that was a complete mess, in no small part because talented players such as LaVar Arrington had no concept of putting team first, or leadership. Gibbs took the heat time and again and never said a bad word about any of his players in public (including Lavar) even when he could have called out his players. Gibbs (and others such as Williams) put in countless hours at the office and on the road to revive a sinking franchise while his 3-year old grandson was fighting for his life. There's no coward there.

So the people on this board side with Gibbs, that's how it should be. This is a Redskins' fan site and Joe Gibbs has done more for this franchise than Arrington ever hoped to accomplish. Arrington's career was, for all intents, a failure and he can blame others but he shouldn't forget to look in the mirror either. Gibbs has coached hundred of players in the NFL and Arrington is the only one who has said something bad about him. Maybe Arrington should think about that.
Great post! Extremely wrong and stupid comment by LA.

But was anyone here saying "fu*k him" and cursing his career and life while he was playing well for us? Smarten up people. Don't be so fairweather and shortsighted.

Did anyone here think LaVar was a pathetic joke loser when he was crying while giving a speech at Sean Taylor's funeral? Or making pro-bowls for us?

Of course not, but when you turn up an ass the next day, Redskin fans - any fans - will call you on it. It's our job.

My opinion (if it could be seen by any of you without being blocked), he couldn't have screwed himself more with those comments. He's a face in DC, and someone we've grown to love and respect over time. So don't talk bad about Gibbs who is a GOD in DC. Stupid, stupid, stupid... bad move LaVar.
