ESPN - Denver Nuggets trade Allen Iverson to Detroit Pistons (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3679931)
Just came through, sorry if its already up. Bad move IMO, Iverson isn't what he was and I think Billups is even or better. Thoughts?

Pretty equal move for both teams. Iverson just wasn't working out with Melo in Denver. Now the Nuggets get a veteran playmaker in Billups who can effectively distribute the ball to Melo, Nene, and Kenyon Martin.
Meanwhile, the Pistons get a star player (though in his waning days) in Iverson to take some pressure off Rip on offense and Stuckey should be able to handle the point. Most importantly, the Pistons can wipe Ivreson's contract off their books at the end of the season.

I'd take Billups over Iverson but I think it's clear that both teams needed to shake things up a bit. I'm surprised by this move but I think it could end up being good for both teams, especially the Nuggets.

I heard speculation that the Pistons are gearing up for a run at King James in 2010 and Iversons expiring contract will make that happen all while making them remain competitive.

Detroit gave away a lot to get Iverson. Half the Detroit squad is made up of former Wizards (well, almost half). Maybe we should have traded for the rest of Detroit's players. Things aren't looking too good for Washington.
By the way, what good is the Princeton Offense? You need good players first.

Iverson is one of the n.b.a all time greats. you have to see him in person to really appreciate his talent and guts. with that being said, im not sure his style is conducive to winning a title. but in my opinion, Detroit definitely got the better end of the trade

I heard he might be going to NJ (when moved to Brooklyn) in 2010.

I heard that too as well. Jay Z being a part time owner has been recruiting him pretty hard and James seems to be attracted that lifestyle.

Detriot (the city) and Iverson are perfect for each other. ;)

In retrospect, I wish the Wizards had traded for Iverson. When our reserves kept beating the so-called first team during training camp, I sort of knew we would start off with a whole bunch of losses.
