Both parties get elected from their bases (right and left) then govern from the middle. The Repubs certainly have done this with all the spending but ultimately they got elected by the base which is more and more being over taken by the evangelicals. Blah.
Unfortunately the far left has also taken over the dems. When Joe Liberman has to run as an independent, somethings wrong. The dems need more Libermans and Sam Nunn types. If they put up a candidate like either of them this election would not even be a contest at this point.

I think this whole 'liberal media' has been seriously blown out of proportion lately. It's a right wing excuse for their last 8 years of F ups.
Good read on the subject here
What Liberal Media? (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20030224/alterman2)
They point out people writing OP-Ed colums but we know what way they lean before reading their colums. I don't have a problem with any Op-Ed writer rather they are left or right leaning because they are all pretty much up front on which way they lean. Its the ones that hide behind their sheild as someone just reporting the facts but write it with their liberal slant. I know there are peopl on the right that do the same but I personaly feel the left has a much greater influence on the news we see and read. Today in our local paper the head line for McCain read "McCain swings across Florida, On The Atack". while the Obama head line read "Obama tells blue-collar workers he's for them". This is how the headlines have read for some time while they cover the election. To me its so obvious that they want to shed Obama in a beter light and if you read the articles it even more obvious. Its the little words they use like when McCain questions Obamas plan they use the word "attack" and when Obama is doing the same thing they say "pointing out differences".

Thankfully, the Religious Right doesn't seem to have the same power and sway that they did in the eighties and early 90's. It seems that the northeastern/Rockafeller/socialist-lite republicans have taken over in lockstep with the imperialist neocons.
The days of Robert Taft/Barry Goldwater conservatism died around 1964 with his defeat. That was pure, traditional conservatism -- actually bordering on libertarianism (my political philosophy).
There is no greater domestic threat to individual freedom than the Religious Right. At their core, they are nothing more than Authoritarians, and they can go straight to hell as far as I'm concerned.
Couldn't agree more with what you said.
