The Ravens in 2000 won ugly a lot. They could afford to do so because they had a terrific defense. They ended up winning the Super Bowl.

For the 2008 Skins the defense brings it every single week. And the offense is better than the 2000 Ravens.

The point is that, although winning pretty would be nice, we may be on the right track.

People were blaming Portis for fumbling.

That was his first fumble, and he's been leading the league in carries.

His fumble was unfortunate, but Portis is still a god who carried the offense on his back today.

That was a very unfortunate fumble but it's silly for anyone to get on Portis the way he is running. That defensive player came up from behind and hacked the ball from behind Portis hard as hell. Portis didn't even see him. He's certainly having the MVP year.... just think if he had done weights and off-season workouts in previous years like he did this year!

I agree with most in here... a win is a win but they cannot keep trying to lose games that they should have won easily. Last week, they totally dominated the Rams but still lost. Today, they had tons of more yardage in the first half than Cleveland but still had no score and punted like five times or so. They gotta put these teams away. I really didn't like it when they went up 14-3 and let Cleveland come right back down the field and only a magnificent goal line stand stopped them from scoring.

But 5-2 is pretty damn good right now with this schedule and in this division and just one game behind the Giants.

I beg to differ. The Ravens D was killer, the offense was adequate. Our D is good and our offense has dropped recently from being great to just adequate(statwise it is excellent, but it is points that count). Our D does not produce turnovers, but the 2000 Ravens did. The Ravens also played in a rather weak division. The NFC East is rarely weak. The game that will help us truly gauge this team is the MNF game against the Steelers. This team might just have a hard time getting up for weak games and get jacked up for the big ones. The Pittsburgh game is the next 'big" game. Hopefully we will rise to the occasion and kick some ass.

Nobody said winning is always pretty. I'll take an ugly win over an ugly loss any day. LOL

5-2 is feeling good especially with Dallas going down today... again

an ugly win is a lot better than having to kiss your stepsister, but i'll take it every time.

I agree, but winning ugly is not really an option in our division, or more importantly getting to be the NFC rep in the SB.

At the beginning of the season I thought if we could go 3-4 or 4-3 at this point, we would be in good shape with the rest of our division games at home. After going 4-1 I thought, damn this offense is already playing well, we're going to start beating the hell out of people soon. But other teams are getting better too, and we are still in only our 7th game in this offense. Portis is having a monster year and our D is playing lights-out. At this pace I think we will be playing our best football during the last half or quarter of the season. I still think we'll get better but 5-2 sure ain't bad.

Not at all 53. But I don't think we can use the 2000 Ravens as inspiration. Our D is good, but not air tight as the Ravens D was that year. There will be games where our D is going to have to create turnovers to give us a shot at winning if our O can't put points on the board. THe Pitsburgh game is going to show our true colors.

Just got home from the game, man that was a good game. Just curious, did anyone see Portis throw his helmet after his fumble. He threw it off a case and it must of bounced 20 feet in the air.

Oh I agree. I don't see much comparison between us and the 2000 Ravens. For one thing I think that would be an insult to our players on offense. Our offense must get better, and I might be in the minority but I believe it will. To me using the Ravens as inspiration would suggest giving up on the offense. That would be a mistake. If the offense were in the mindset of just MANAGING the game, I think we would be in trouble. Zorn wants an aggressive offense. We'll get there.
