Ya man he batted 3 balls down against the cards. And he had a sack against the saints. All of which was before that calf injury.
When Will Jason Taylor Produce???HAILItsGAMEDAY 10-16-2008, 01:27 PM Ya man he batted 3 balls down against the cards. And he had a sack against the saints. All of which was before that calf injury. CRedskinsRule 10-16-2008, 01:27 PM How many threads can we have of "when will [insert new player name here] produce". Our D has been stingy, and our offense is quite good for a new head coach and system; why would anyone be rushed onto the field. Lets Enjoy this 4-2 start, and if by the end of the 3rd quarter of the season we aren't seeing the newer faces producing then revisit this topic. Defensewins 10-16-2008, 01:46 PM Jason Taylor is not the defensive MVP player he once was. He is old for a full time starting DE. At this point in his career he is better suited to be a situational pass rush DE. Keep the younger and stout Evans in on the other situations. One thing the Redskins need to evaluate for next season is whether Taylor and his high salary/cap number is worth it for a part time player. I don't think he fell of the map as a full time DE in one season. He's got 24.5 sacks in the past two seasons. He's just knicked up. I think he can still produce at full-time high level. skinsnut 10-16-2008, 01:59 PM I want to be patient with this guy...but I think I remember we gave up a 2nd rounder for him....he better have 10 sacks this year or this move will likely be considered a mistake. EJames on the other hand was a low risk/high reward move, considering his age. I think this provides him a golden opportunity to beat out Taylor as a situational DE...assuming he can go. Its just sad to say but, it is very likely that Taylor is a situational end....the exact opposite of who he was supossedly replacing (especially since we already have Wilson and James for passrushing...not to mention the rookie) MTK 10-16-2008, 02:01 PM I think this stuff about him being washed up, a situational player, is just ridiculous. I thought he was playing well and starting to settle into this defense before the setback with the calf, which was a freak thing. Can we ever just have a little patience? He knee wasn't close to right in the Giants game. In the Arizona/NO games he had a sack and 4 tipped passes combined. No reason to think he can't still kill it when healthy. His calf will continue to improve. I could see his breakout game being against Dan Orlovsky and the woeful Lions in two weeks.... CA_Redskins 10-16-2008, 02:13 PM Evans is 30 lbs heavier and DEFINITELY better against the run than Taylor. The Giants went after Taylor with a vengeance in the first game, and Brandon Jacobs seemed to get 6+ yards every time he carried the ball. Taylor should be the best pass rusher on the team, but I just don't see that yet, probably due to the injuries. I believe that given his age, the D would get more production from Taylor as a designated pass rusher, playing Evans on obvious running situations to reduce Taylor's workload, and to keep his legs fresh. Could be a good plan. I still think we need to see Taylor in action once his is back to 100%. skinsfan69 10-16-2008, 02:20 PM I think this stuff about him being washed up, a situational player, is just ridiculous. I thought he was playing well and starting to settle into this defense before the setback with the calf, which was a freak thing. Can we ever just have a little patience? A 2nd and a 6th was given up for a player past his prime who makes a ton of money. People are not going to have patience. Look at the possible gems Vinny and co. found with Horton in the 7th round and Blades in the 6th. Those picks are valuable. Right now it looks like Miami got over on us. But despite having one of the worst pass rushing lines we don't give up a lot of points and that's the bottom line. I'm happy with our defense but not happy with the Taylor trade. We would have been just fine with Evans, Wilson, James and Jackson. |
