First and foremost, Brooks is the team's punter though. Holding is certainly important, but it's secondary to his job punting the ball.
I forget the rules, but could they practice squad Brooks for a while?
I think so, but even if they did someone will scoop him up and that team may look like a genius when he gets a fresh start and starts hitting 50 yarders.
We can't risk that.
and sorry about not doing my homework on available punters.
I copied someone elses stuff.
bad on me.

I love how people claim that punting is the easiest job in the world. There are 32 teams and how many have great punters. There are 100s of punters coming out of college every year, so every team should have a great punter according to the 'easiest job in the NFL' theory. Yet many teams are always searching for a better punter.
Right now I don't see any option but to stick with Durant and see if he can work thru it. I think coaching is a big part of it also, so maybe they need to change what they are doing or get a new coach to work with him.
It is the easiest position in the NFL. The NFL has some of the best atheletes and are the cream of the crop. The fact that there aren't a ton of good punters, doesn't change the fact that it is much easier to be a punter than a QB,WR, or even field goal kicker. Plus who the hell grows up wanting to be a punter? That could be a reason why there arent may quality punters, no one really wants to do it.

Ok then according to your theory, why even waste a position on a punter. Heck just let one of the best athletes go punt the ball. It is so easy and they only have to do it a handful of times in a game so just let your best athlete go out there and punt it. You save a position on the team for something else and you now have a guaranteed great punter. Problem solved. :)

He had 1 good punt- but really...is there an EASIER position in football from the college to pro level?

Well, somebody has to get fired after to losing to one of the worst teams in football.
Can't fire Chris Cooley for not putting the ball away after a nice catch and run.
Can't fire Casey Rabach for a muffed snap that caused Jason Campbell to fumble the ball.
Can't fire Jason Campbell for mishandling the muffed snap from Rabach or the pass that got tipped in the air that Pete Kendall attempted to run.
Can't fire Pete Kendall for catching the tip pass, trying his best Barry Sanders impression, coughed up the ball trying to put a move on a linebacker.
Can't fire Chris Horton for failing to blitz the quarterback on the big pass play near the end of the game when his assignment was to blitz the quarterback.
Can't fire Leigh Torrence for not making a play on the ball on the big pass play.
Can't fire LaRon Landry or London Fletcher for dropping interceptions.
But you can fire the punter. Because we all know, it was the punter that lost this game.

There's also the possibility some team will scoop him up and he will struggle with them as well. It's a chance you take.
I honestly don't think anyone out there will be falling over themselves to pick up Brooks right now. We could probably cut him and pick him up again next summer to give him another shot. I guess the writing is on the wall for Brooks... too bad but he didn't do much to save himself. It's only a matter of time before he really does cost us a game all by himself.

Well im guessing that you are/or were a punter. The question isnt why waste a position on a punter, its why waste a draft pick on a punter?
