Defensewins 10-06-2008, 03:12 PM A Couple of Random Thoughts About Our Team Yesterday:
With the exception of London Fletcher, who's picture should be in the dictionary under Football Player, and C. Griffin, our whole defensive unit that played yesterday are players that the Skins have drafted. Smoot is technically a free agent, but since he came back, I'm counting him too. That's got to say something about our draft the last few years. A few FA's sat yesterday...Springs, Washington, Taylor, Daniels..........
You forgot about DE Carter. It think he was drafted by the 49ers.
A couple of my observations:
1) DT Griffen of course is our rock, but Golsten, Montgomery and Alexander are quietly doing a very good job stuffing the run. Since the Giants game debacle the DL has stopped the run.
2) Teams are staying away from LeRon Landry. You never hear his name called for anything bad. He is also quietly doing a great job.
3) Our small little smurf receivers are playing good enough to win. Who said we NEEDED tall Wr's? It is not a necessary thing. I think our passing game in past years suffered from poor QB play and very conservative play calling. Not our WR play. I think our little Wr's are good.
4) Cooley made some really great blocks yesterday. I have been a critic of his blocking skills, right fully so, he has not always been very good. But he made some great blocks yesterday.
5) OL is far exceeding my expectations. Especially in run blocking. Wow!
6) Save the big one for last: MLB Fletcher is amazing. That open field tackle of RB Westbrook was the highlight of the game for me. Defense Wins Championships and ours is getting strong.

For some reason Chris Horton impressed me almost as much yesterday as the first few games of the year. That tackle on Deshean Jackson was impressive, maybe saving a big play. He flew in, slid, and tripped him up. His speed is impressive.
Devin Thomas is huge. Maybe just standing next to ARE and Moss? He could be something if he can stop pushing off. Good to see him catch a couple.
The ref's were horrible yesterday. The kickoff return...horrible call. The ARE catch...he didn't get touched and would have gone for a score. Here's an idea, how about not blowing the whistle til your pretty sure he's down. All of the skins players said they didn't hear a whistle til ARE had run another 20 yards. Huh? Blown calls...horrible.
Suisham...damn, he had a great game. I won't mention the worst kickoff i've ever seen since he did everything else well.
JC is starting to remind me a little of Ben Roeth. Maybe I'm off base, but I always thought he had the potential but needed better pocket awareness/presence/footwork & playmaking ability. I think he's getting some of that now.
OMG! The refs yesterday had me outta my seat and yelling so loud I think my neighbors heard me! How can a side line jugde who clearly had line of visio on that kick return throw a flag for block in the back. And then they just pick it up!?? "there is no foul on the play" Bullshit!
And the ARE should have clearly been a freakin TD. But noooo...the ref got ahead of himself and blew the damn whistle.
If you think of it that way...the game score would have been 30-10!

You've said this before and it really annoys me. Moss might be short, but he's also 205lbs of muscle who made some great blocks and tackles yesterday while he was being double teamed. He is no smurf !!!! ...
saden1 10-06-2008, 03:25 PM We're winning close games and that's a good thing but I want to start seeing blowouts in the next 3 games.
Cooley has gotten better as a blocker. He's taking on DE better and he's moving to the second level with authority.
JC is on track to be sacked 25 this season. I would like to see that number reduced.
I want to see more two back sets with Portis and Betts. I would also like to see Sellers fed the ball more.
I feel good about this team, hopefully we can continue to play at a high level.

You know, I knew Andre Carter was a FA but left him out for some reason.
Extreme 10-06-2008, 03:33 PM I'm almost too afraid to be this optimistic about the Skins. They have shocked me for four weeks straight now and I can't remember a time that I was so proud of them. WOW!Amen to that. It's been exactly 17 years since I was this excited at what the Skins were doing.
I'm honestly not scared anymore. I think Zorn is a perfect fit, and exactly what we needed.
I truly believe we're in for a very special season fellas :)

Sunday Night, November 30, 2008: The Battle for the Division Title. Game Time: 8:15
Washington v. New York Giants.
Yes. I am looking ahead. Yes. I am assuming the NFL will want to Flex this game into the Sunday night slot. Yes. The Redskins will win.
dmek25 10-06-2008, 04:41 PM joe, you seem great in reading the future. will i ever be wealthy?:)

Dear Annoyed,
Calling a Wr 'Smurf' is in reference to his height, not weight. Moss and Randle El are generously listed at 5' 10" tall. I have met both and they are not 5' 10" tall. They are 5' 9" with cleats on. I like both of them and I did not see a need to draft a WR, just because he is tall. We have other greater needs other than another WR and TE.
I was also referring to all of the recommendations before the 2008 draft for a tall WR because we did not have one and how that would help to solve our passing deficiencies. That is what I am referring to. Well our new tall WR's have not played much and our two shorter WR have done well. We are 4-1 and it looks like we did not NEED a tall WR or another TE.
FRPLG 10-06-2008, 04:52 PM Moss is 5'9" maybe and he certainly doesn't weight any more than about 175 LBs. Randle El is actually a little taller. For that matter Rock Cartwright is not even 5'6" and Portis is bigger than he looks.
