MTK 10-02-2008, 02:34 PM There's no rush but the sooner it gets done the Skins could save a few million, and if it gets done during the season you can get his contract on the books now to prorate the deal. Per JLC: Should the talks get going in 2008 -- and this is purely hypothetical here, just for information purposes only as I know some of you want all the details possible -- here's a little primer on in-season contracts (we haven't had many, or any, of these around here for a long time that I can think of, so I went to the NFL and NFLPA to make sure I had everything straight): The Redskins would have to complete the deal by the end of the regular season in order to include this season in any proration from the new deal. Should the Redskins want any increase in 2008 salary for a player to count as salary in the current year, the deal would have to be completed by 4 p.m. on Nov. 3. Any notice of an increase in a player's 2008 salary declared to the NFL Management Council after Nov. 3 would be treated as a signing bonus. The Redskins are currently about $2 million under the cap. birdz4gibbs 10-02-2008, 03:00 PM the skins need to sign him when the time is right for that to happen...no rush. but i would certainly have something put together for he and his representatives before seasons end though. i,m sure they will put a deal togther for him... skinsfan69 10-02-2008, 04:56 PM I'd wait until he plays a full year. dmek25 10-02-2008, 06:10 PM im with Irish on this. wait until the season is over, and if he keeps performing at a high level, then reward him. im sick of carrying dead cap money on the books doughtydoubter 10-03-2008, 12:06 PM There's no rush but the sooner it gets done the Skins could save a few million, and if it gets done during the season you can get his contract on the books now to prorate the deal. Great research and what has been the redskins achilles in building a team the past decade or so? Finding a franchise Qb you can build around. Im not saying bring out the ink and paperwork this week, but it makes sense to lock him up THIS year especially if there is the possibilty of an uncapped year looming. I think if we didnt get him signed his agent would be a follish one not to have him wait it out till the end of next year and refute all offers in his contract year. GTripp0012 10-03-2008, 12:14 PM Remember: franchise quarterbacks never hit the open market. doughtydoubter 10-03-2008, 12:15 PM true...but waiting could be the difference in derek anderson numbers vs peyton numbers agains the cap |
