The jury is still out on Campbell but he has shown enough progression this season to give him a break for now.
JC is not what I thought part twoDesertHog 12-01-2008, 12:44 AM The jury is still out on Campbell but he has shown enough progression this season to give him a break for now. hooskins 12-01-2008, 12:49 AM here is a crazy idea. how about let him be in the same system for more than one year? MTK 12-01-2008, 01:07 AM here is a crazy idea. how about let him be in the same system for more than one year? Crazy talk. Bring in the next guy, if he doesn't turn out to be the next Brady or Manning by halfway through next season, toss him on the scrap heap too. GTripp0012 12-01-2008, 01:08 AM When do I get my tryout for QB of the Redskins? More importantly, when am I going to be called out for lacking heart?! MTK 12-01-2008, 01:09 AM When do I get my tryout for QB of the Redskins? More importantly, when am I going to be called out for lacking heart?! When you lose, you don't have any heart. When you win, you've got mad heart. prinzeofmoval 12-01-2008, 01:35 AM The jury is still out on Campbell but he has shown enough progression this season to give him a break for now. Huh? He really only had what 3-4 games where we can say he played like a pro-bowler. The other wins came on the back of Clinton Portis. Blame the O-line or play calling...I'm just calling a spade a spade. Sheriff Gonna Getcha 12-01-2008, 02:12 AM Huh? He really only had what 3-4 games where we can say he played like a pro-bowler. The other wins came on the back of Clinton Portis. Blame the O-line or play calling...I'm just calling a spade a spade. Jason played at an outstanding level in four games, poorly in four games and okay in two games. That, to me, is reason enough to give him more time to prove himself. To those who think otherwise, please consider the following: (1) Jason is a FAR superior QB than his predecessors. In the past decade or so I have suffered through Heath Shuler Gus Frerotte, Jeff George, Tony Banks, Shane Matthews, Patrick Ramsey, Danny Wuerfel, Tim Hasselbeck and a few others. Jason is, by far, the best of the bunch. The thought of going through another decade or so searching for a better option at quarterback makes me sick to my stomach. (2) Quality free agent QBs don't grow on trees. In the past few years, how many teams have found a quality, young quarterback in free agency? Not many. New Orleans is the only team I can think of, and they took a MAJOR gamble in signing Brees. He signed a monster contract after coming off of an injury that threatened his career. How many great QBs are hitting the free agent market this offseason? None. Matt Cassel will likely hit free agency, but if JC doesn't please you, neither will Matt Cassel. (3) Colt is NOT ready. Yes, we all know Colt Brennan has that "it" boy quality. But, that "it" factor doesn't mean squat. One day he might be a fine QB, but he's not there yet. He looked great in 2 games and struggled mightily in 2 others against 3rd stringers (many of whom have never played a single down in a regular season NFL game). If he struggled to move the ball and put up decent stats against guys who couldn't make other teams' practice squads, what in the world makes you think he'll excel against starting NFL defensive units? Yes, I am aware of the whole "he was drafted in the 6th round like Tom Brady" argument. However, not only is that argument unpersuasive, it's grade A tarded. So please spare me that garbage. The point isn't that Jason is the best quarterback. The point is Jason is the best option we have right now, and he'll likely be the best option we have next season as well. GTripp0012 12-01-2008, 02:17 AM In somewhat related news, I'd like to see Brennan move up to No. 2 on the depth chart...next season. wilsowilso 12-01-2008, 02:27 AM Jason Campbell does many things well and he is gaining experience. Hopefully coach Zorn will figure out how to maximize his talents to the fullest. JC works hard and he is talented so why not give him maximum support until he hits a clear and definite plateau. I just hope we don't sign him long term until the end of next season. That seems to be the window of time that makes the most sense with regards to assesing his progression as a player. Great defenses are exposing this team right now, but I'm not sure what that even means? I kind of feel like the coaches aren't exactly sure either. redsk1 12-01-2008, 10:05 AM Jason Campbell does many things well and he is gaining experience. He hasn't earned a contract yet barring a good finish to this season. He's got, what 10 TD passes all season in 12 games. I think it would be premature to give him a contract at this point. I like JC and I like the improvement he has shown. However, there are a lot of QB's out there that can be fairly successful when things are going well. When you've got a CP running for 150 yards it opens some things up. When you've got a oline blocking well, you can scan the field. What the elite QB do, is to find ways of scoring points and winning. I'm not convinced yet w/ JC. I do hope we've found our QB but i'm not going to annoint him yet. |
