onlydarksets 09-25-2008, 12:05 PM Yeah, you're going to have to give a few examples...
You mean like the dumpsters full of cats and dogs they killed?
I wish we had the rep system right about now...
dmek25 09-25-2008, 12:26 PM im all for it. anytime i can get my lips.....
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 09-25-2008, 01:01 PM lol PETA is so ridiculous, it's a shame because it really tarnishes the good things they do.
I was going to say the same thing. Animal cruelty is a serious matter. Unfortunately, PETA doesn't know how to pick its battles, goes over the top, and ends up hurting their cause.
I wish we had the rep system right about now...
It's not even worth it.

Why? Positive or negative feedback?
It is well documented that PETA has advocated killing animals rather than them "suffering" in shelters or captivity. The founder Ingrid Newkirk admits to euthanizing hundreds of animals in a shelter she worked in rather than "watch them suffer and be abused". The incident Buster references did happen and it follows a disturbing pattern for PETA.
From National Review Online: "in 2003, of the 2,224 dogs and cats PETA received for placement, only 312 (14 percent) ended up in homes. All but one of the remaining animals were killed. This has been a consistent pattern for years. The Center noted that between 1998 and 2003, PETA took in 13,021 animals. Of these, it killed 10,195, with 2,540 adopted and 261 transferred (their kill ratio has trended upwards since and is now over 90%).
In contrast, animal shelters located near PETA’s headquarters had a far superior adoption-to-kill ratio in 2003. According to the statistics compiled by the Center, the Norfolk SPCA found adoptive homes for 73 percent and Virginia Beach adopted out 66 percent, compared to PETA's meager 14 percent."

Before you dismiss the article as being "right wing" propaganda, these numbers have been officially documented with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The people working at the SPCA shelters work their asses off on a shoe-string budget to keep as many of the animals alive as they can. It's too bad the PETA folks don't do the same. I guess it's easier for PETA to give these animals a shot than take care of them and try to find them homes. While PETA does some good, they are a radical organization that also supports the ALF and other "Animal rights" groups that engage in illegal activities. I would much rather support organizations like the ASPCA and Humane Society.

The results are in from a necropsy of a dog found dead in a dumpster last month in Ahoskie, N.C.
Two employees of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, each face 31 counts of animal cruelty after police say they dumped that dog and more than two dozen other animals.
Ahoskie police only had one of the dead animals tested. While the results did not show what caused its death, Sgt. Jeremy Roberts said the report shows the dog was fine. "That was a perfectly healthy six to eight-month-old puppy and the only physical problem with the dog was that it had fleas," he said.
Tissue samples are now being tested to determine whether the dog had been poisoned.
In addition to dead animals found in the PETA van on June 15, police say they found a syringe and what appeared to be chemicals used in euthanizing animals.
"From what the doctor told us, about the puncture wound in the vein, leads to they were giving something injected into them," Sgt. Roberts added.
According to the search warrant, police have been finding dead animals in the dumpster since early May. The first time, they discovered 21 dead dogs behind a grocery store. Then June second, 17 dogs and 3 cats were found dead. A week later, 20 more were found.
Finally on June 15th, police say they caught PETA employees tossing bags containing the bodies of 16 dogs in the dumpster. There were another seven dogs and 15 cats in the van, according to records.
The warrant says the animals were alive when the left the shelter and were dead within the hour.
"The only person that can euthanize an animal in North Carolina is a licensed vet and they were not even supposed to be in possession of the drugs to euthanize animals," noted Sgt. Roberts.

That Guy 09-25-2008, 05:19 PM peta is retarded and useless. if they care soo much, why do they kill so many animals and support those that think illegal activities are a good idea?
the only reason its still around is because it lets members feel like their part of something bigger and misleads them into thinking that they're doing something important... just like a cult ;)
that said, it is proven fact that human milk is healthier than cow milk (for humans) contains proteins that cow milk does not have, and children raised on breast milk over soy milk tend to score about 10 points higher in IQ tests - so it's not like it's meritless, but good luck trying to source that much and get past people's norms.

PETA's home office is about 10 miles from my office and home so we hear it all. What happened in the case you posted is that PETA went to a shelter in NC that was over crowded and oon the way home euthenized (spelling) 13 of the animals and dump them in a dumpster on the way home. I think they ended up getting out of the charges or where hit with only minor charges for disposing of the animals improperly.
Another person with PETA around here picked up a hunting dog which had wondered off and they removed the tracking devise from the dog so no one could trak them down. The reason is because they thinking hunting and how the dogs are used as cruel. The funny part was that someone saw them and wrote down their plate # and the dog belonged to the policy cheif. PETA claimed they were just trying to get the dog out of trafic (on this counrty road) and the collar fell off. I think the charges were dropped because they could not prove that PETA was stealing the guys dog.
