SmootSmack 09-23-2008, 05:12 PM WIZARDS: Washington Wizards Sign Juan Dixon (http://www.nba.com/wizards/news/wizsigndixon_080923.html)
To me this is a marketing move designed to mask the severity of Arena's knee situation (I think he's out until at least the All-Star break) to the fans, but doesn't address any real team needs
dmek25 09-23-2008, 05:22 PM smooty, whats your take on the balance of power in the east? i would like to think it has shifted, now that my sixers have Elton Brand
hooskins 09-23-2008, 06:03 PM Wow, really? Makes no sense to me either SS.
That Guy 09-24-2008, 01:29 AM pointless. dude's just not very good.
Monkeydad 09-24-2008, 09:47 AM Actually he is pretty good. He's been stuck sharing time in Portland and Toronto, but he's a good shooter, decent defender and has done a lot with limited minutes. He can average 10+ PPG when playing regularly.
I like the move if its for depth since we can never know Arenas' health status. Losing Roger Mason Jr. was a huge loss. I don't see the current bench carrying the load if Gilbert goes down again. We still have Antonio Daniels at PG with Dee Brown (not that Dee Brown) backing him up. Then at SG we have Caron and really no one other than Nick Young behind him, so I'm guessing Dixon will be the backup SG. Gil had another knee operation last Wednesday, his third one and he's only 26.
I was always a fan of his since his Terp days.

I assume you meant Deshawn at shooting guard, not Caron.
I agree that this was a logical pick-up for us as Juan is at least a serviceable point, can also play the two, and is already comfortable in EJ's system. I'm not a huge Antonio Daniels fan, and having him and Dee Brown II as our only PG's for at least the first two months of the season doesn't inspire much confidence.
Juan is cheap, has no character or drug problems, can play in positions where we are thin, and will probably put a few more fans in the seats. This isn't going to make us an elite team, but it was a logical, low-risk move that is better than simply doing nothing and relying on what we have.
itvnetop 09-24-2008, 07:51 PM As a fan, I love Juanny D. But I agree with SS- Wiz are still missing that pass first, perimeter-defending PG the team desperately needs.

Definitely think the Sixers could do some damage, but I do have some concerns about EB being a dependable leader and taking the Sixers to the next level. But paired up with AI (the new AI in Philly) they could be dangerous.
As for Dixon, he's an undersized shooting guard who doesn't get to the line, he's not a lockdown defender, and don't ask him to run the offense at point because the offense will just die. If he is asked to do just one thing, shoot the ball, that'll be fine. But beyond that is detrimental to the team.
I wish we had kept Steve Blake, that's a pure point guard.
That Guy 09-25-2008, 12:35 AM wow, people are STILL on the steve blake bandwagon :/. i thought that died, like, 3 years ago.
SmootSmack 09-25-2008, 12:59 AM At 10-15 minutes a game, Blake is a solid backup point
