CRedskinsRule 09-21-2008, 09:24 PM I didn't think our offense was anything special today. It was average. The defesne bends but doesn't break. I thought Devin Thomas made some strides today.
??? Were you watching the same game?
Our offense has regularly struggled to get over 20 points, to have a drive in the 4th quarter that held a lead, to make field stretching plays, and to surprise the opposing defense. Today, we did all of that. Were you expecting that fake handoff and pass for first down. Were you expecting the pass to Yoder.
Our offense looked special, because of all the things it wasn't. It didn't give up, it didn't turn off and not turn back on. etc.
horse 09-21-2008, 09:30 PM You're wrong. Our running game hasn't been great yet all year. I like the rushing TDs, but yards have been pretty hard to come by. And today we played a team that finished DEAD LAST in total D last season.
We're going to "very hard to beat?" We're actually pretty lucky we're not 1-2 or even 0-3. Two very narrow home wins and a ugly road division loss. Our offense had 105 yards at halftime today outside of the 1st drive we didn't have a 1st down the rest of the half. And this is playing at home with no crowd noise in our ears. I liked some of the execution in the second half, and I'm happy with the way we're progressing, but if you think for one minute we can walk into Philly or Dallas the next few weeks and win playing this way... well, then you my friend are the on who is a little slow.
O.k. get it straight, We were in the redzone all game against the saints, the fact we got fgs instead of tds is everyone adjusting to the new scheme. After the 1st drive the giants did'nt do shit, And the refs helped them get that with the bogus PI , Bad as we played we could've pulled it out. We should have one this one by at least 14 if Heyer did'nt want to fight instead of block. Our D has given up no points in the 4th, Which means we're finishing what we start. This team is just getting started. D. Thomas is gonna cause nightmares and Kelly can do the same what a mix of recievers and the tight ends, And the one thing this line has been able to do in recent years is run block. What a half empty view you have, Next wk we beat dallas then you can jump on.
The Goat 09-21-2008, 09:36 PM What impresses me the most right now is that we're winning the games we should win. Sounds simple but it was something we really haven't done in a few years. Now, if we can win 1 of the next 2 games, which realistically should both be losses, we'll be on a completely new level.
itvnetop 09-21-2008, 09:40 PM I like Zorn's playcalling at the end of the last two games. He's aggressively called pass plays on third/fourth down to keep the ball on offense to run the clock out. It increases the confidence in both the offense and Campbell, in particular.
Give props to the defense, especially the secondary. Save for that Fitz TD, the corners played a lot of man defense against those Cardinal weapons on the outside. I saw them playing the receivers close to the line, showing a lot of confidence in the safety help. And that Torrance tip to Carlos was actually PI against Breaston, who mauled the CB from behind (watch Breaston's hand come across Leigh's facemask when the ball is underthrown).

I don't know we seemed to matchup with dallas very well last year and both teams did'nt change much, But I think we changed more for the better. With Zorn they can't just come after us, Cause eventually he'll make them pay. Springs will do a fair job on t.o. So if we can protect JC we can win!!!!!!!!!

You get it straight- We looked good against NO, but settling for FG's won't win you games. Sure we're adjusting to the scheme. But our offense looked stagnant for a large part of the first half. I love when people name drop our players to me on this site. Like I need a lesson in our personnel. D. Thomas is gonna do this, Kelly is gonna do that, ra ra ra. I learned to stop getting excited when the Redskins draft receivers. Aside from Cooley our last several attempts at pass catchers in the draft have been lousy. I'm in "show me" mode in that department.
Learning the West Coast always takes time. I agree we have great potential, but we're not there yet. I guarantee if we play the caliber of ball game next week that we did today, we will get beaten by Dallas. Same goes for week 5 in Philly. Our run D is poor and I'm worried about the consistent inconsistency of the offense. Although I'm very happy with the tempo we showed in the 2nd half.

Personnel-wise yes, but we apparently aren't a blitzing defense anymore under Blache, we've got a new HC and a totally different offense. Crowd noise doesn't matter nearly as much when you're running between the tackles 35 times a game a la Joe Gibbs.

That basically sums it up. It will take a heroic defensive effort the next two weeks to give JC and the offense a chance to win the game. Specifically, yes our run defense has to improve markedly, but so does our pass rush (still). Romo and Dono will destroy any defense that can't put serious pressure on them.
Redskin 09-21-2008, 09:51 PM I think we wont have much trouble moving the ball on dallas next week but we have to have the offense on the field and not the defense. We are getting good turnovers this season and that may be the difference in the dallas game.

Good point. Plus it's nice to be 2-1 while the offense is still a work in progress.
