From the Houston Chronicle:

Former NFL defensive tackle Daryl Gardener has been hired as assistant strength coach at Texas Southern. Gardener, a former No. 1 pick from Baylor, experienced back problems during much of his career. Gardener was supposed to sign with Cincinnati after the Broncos released him June 1 but couldn't pass their physical. If his back improves enough and he has the desire to play, Gardener will try to make a comeback, preferably with the Bengals.

well, good for him. He did his job for us the year we had him. One of our few great free agent pickups the first few years of synders reign

im pretty sure hes older than that, I dont see him coming back at this point. He had the chance to play this year and didnt. If you take a coaching job your basically retiring.

From team MVP to a strength coach in just a couple of years. He had all-world talent, injuries and other off the field problems took their toll.
