Smoot: Time to sit on the bench.Skins_4_Lyfe 09-14-2008, 10:58 PM ...Doesn't get injured too much... Your'e kidding right...we are still talking about Fred Smoot right? That Guy 09-14-2008, 11:00 PM EE21, Landry always plays that deep. I don't get the Smoot hate this week. As someone said earlier his break on a ball tipped it to Horton for a big INT. He played good coverage. Honestly, I can't even think of a play where he blew it. The only player that totally blew a coverage that I saw was Springs sitting in the flat on the TD toss. yeah, watching him guard grass was kinda ugly... DynamiteRave 09-14-2008, 11:14 PM Your'e kidding right...we are still talking about Fred Smoot right? Has he ever (with the Skins) been placed on IR? I'd rather have a guy out there playing not at 100% (and doing decent. Not completely sucking) rather than riding the pine like a wimp with a minor, playable injury. People are acting like Smoot is playing God-awful football and he's NOT. The Goat 09-15-2008, 01:20 AM I don't get it. Smoot took a nasty shot in the opener and has been rehabbing the injury. If he was a step slower than usual today that is the logical reason. His coverage in NY was above average and Smooty always plays w/ attitude. Remember the shot he gave to Hassellback in the playoff game last year? Priceless. GTripp0012 09-15-2008, 01:25 AM I don't get it. Huh, the only times I remember Smooty getting beat in NY was against Plaxico (if memory serves) and that only really lasted through the first-half. Rogers had some blown coverages as well but I expected it as he got a feel for the knee. GMScud 09-15-2008, 01:36 AM This thread is at least 2 or 3 bad games premature. I went back to the DVR and watched a bunch of the game. He didn't look bad at all. Understandable that he needed a few breathers given his back/hip, and Torrence filled in admirably (and played very well on teams today). Smoot definitely didn't do anything worthy of the slightest panic, let alone a benching. Also, I've read just about every recap and article I can find about the game, and I haven't read a single sentence suggesting Smoot's struggling (yeah, I said it). The Goat 09-15-2008, 02:36 AM In a sense this thread brought up a positive - Torrence. I am loving that we've now basically got 4, count 'em, 4 corners that can play in the NFL. Torrence always had so much speed it was just a matter of his skill developing and it looks like we're seeing it happen. Burress beat him every time they matched up, and if memory serves, Toomer got him a few times as well. I noticed in the Giants game that when Smoot left, the pass d did not suffer any sort of dropoff. I'll have to review the tape to see if Smoot improved. He seems to be giving way too much cushion on 3rd down. Also, the tipped ball was against Shockey, while a good player, isn't exactly a burner. I think most nickleback's in the league should be able to handle a tight end. |
