dmvskinzfan08 09-15-2008, 01:13 PM That's my thinking as well.
I agree as well. But there is something to say about a player who has the knack to captialize and be in the right place at the right time. So many times I have seen balls like that fall to the ground and fumbles being recovered by the team that fumbled. Both of them are valuable to the team. But securing three turnover isn't a coincidence.
GhettoDogAllStars 09-15-2008, 01:37 PM Doughty is an average safety. From what I've seen, so is Horton.
Doughty has been on this team for a few years, and he's still average. Horton has potential, and we need to see what's there. IMO, Horton should start until he shows otherwise. I just don't see much (if any) drop-off by replacing Doughty with Horton.

Considering Doughty is almost completely deaf, his “average play” should be considered well above average in my opinion. The man has accomplished a lot. I'll give him that...

I agree. Horton is a ROOKIE and is looking comparable to Doughty if not better. So that is a good thing. He has upside and will only get better. Doughty is a veteran and propbably has reached his peak. Plus I think Horton has more speed and is more of a ballhawk which was evident in Saints game.
skinsfan69 09-15-2008, 01:53 PM At least he caught the balls. That's something our DB's have been lacking, Rogers and Smoot in particular. This guy has a nose for the football whether you think he was lucky or whatever, he has been doing this since our 1st exhibition game. Is that just luck or a pattern to good instincts?
Oh no question Horton has a nose for the ball and this might be turn out to be a real nice draft pick. I like his size, athletism and instincts. But let's not give the guy the starting job just cause he made some pretty easy INT's. I just don't think Horton is ready to be a full time starter.

Agreed, they should use him more in the rotation with Doughty until proven and who knows what Kareem Moore might be able to do when he gets healthy. This is a great position to be in.
sandtrapjack 09-15-2008, 02:16 PM Don't crap on Doughtry so quickly. I think Horton had a heck of a game and I think he just might be a great player some day, but he's still a rookie. Not every game is going to be this glamorous. Let him get burned once and we'll be calling for his head.
Well even though the TV schedule said I would see the Giants/Rams, I was pleasantly surprised that they actually showed the 'Skins/Saints yesterday.
I was too caught up and "wowed" by Hortons nose for the ball. But I tend to agree with skinsguy here.
I have read most of the posts in this thread and there is an overwhelming majority that see Horton as the new starting SS back there. In his first NFL start he had a great game, granted.
But Matt Ryan had a great game in his first NFL start last week, and this week he laid an egg on the field.
Just wondering that if Horton keeps the starting job, if and when he has a bad game, will all of those who want him to replace Doughty be screaming for Hortons head on a stick? Once you get on a bandwagon, it can be hard to get off.

I normally wouldn't be all for replacing a vet with a rookie, but going back to preseason, there were countless examples of Doughty missing tackles. That shouldn't happen for a player that isn't that strong in coverage.
dmvskinzfan08 09-15-2008, 02:30 PM I saw that, but I wasn't sure if that was his fault or Springs fault.
It looked like it was Spring fault. But I may be wrong.

Pretty easy INTs? Did you see how many INTs we dropped in the Giants game. Nuff said.
