Things that will get better when we get our 3 2nd rounders in the mix, Springs and Taylor healthy, learn to give the ball to Sellers on 3rd and short, pass the ball beyond the 1st down marker not below, manage the timeouts a little better. This things will make a big difference in my opinion.

And don't forget that Tuck is a premier pass rusher in this league. You never ever ever put a tight end on him and expect him to block Tuck. Spurrier did that in his infamous "Chuck and Duck" offense and that offense was a proven failure.

Good thread.

People definitely need to chill the hell out. It's one game of 16. As we've seen in recent years you can't throw in the towel even when things look totally lost things can turn on a dime.

New offense, young QB, rookie HC... there's going to be a learning curve. If we're still looking this bad on offense in week 4 or 5 I will start to get concerned. Until then they just need to play through it and continue to work on improving.

i keep the faith on jc..but my optimsm with zorns "offensive mind" has waned a little.
i didnt expect playoffs or superbowl this year, but i didnt expect every possession to be three and out, or every run to be up the middle....we have GOT to be more inovative and get away from run run pass...

I'm not so much in to throwing in the towel as I am in to wringing it. Or maybe whipping someone with it.

So Paintrain you think we will beat the Saints? And have a winning record after 6 games? There are serious gaps that still haven't been addressed since last season. From our draft we have 1 starter, a punter, who performed worse than Frost, who we cut. Cerrato's days are numbered. Thomas, Kelly, Tryon? How about depth at CB, OL, DL? Perhaps a S? Hopefully we can eventually use Colt, but I think the schedule is very difficult and it would take a Gibbs presence to help make miracles. Do you believe in miracles?People discount how difficult a coaching change is initially. Both Gibbs and Schottenheimer started 0-5 here. While I believe that Zorn will work out fine in the long run, I can easily see the Skins starting 1-4 or 0-5 this year, especially given the brutal early portion of the schedule. I was alarmed by the lack of intensity by the defensive front 7 in the first quarter. Campbell looked shaky as well, but that is to be expected when you have a young QB in yet another new offense.

Another disappointment was the inability of the DBs to catch INTs when they were there for the taking. Smoot caught one, but dropped one in the end zone. Rogers dropped two, including one that would have gone to the house, and Landry also dropped one. When the team is struggling, sometimes just making a play can light a fire, and those 4 dropped INTs might have changed the momentum in our favor.

.
1-4 or 2-3 is likely and we could still end up 9-7 or 10-6 and in the playoffs. IMO, our three toughest games of the year are in the first 5 weeks (@NY, @PHI, @Dallas). In the long run, it will show a lot about Zorn's character and leadership with how he comes out of that fifth game and moving forward.

This is a HUGE big picture point most people are ignoring. Smoot catches that ball, it's now 13 points given up rather than 16. If Rogers catches the one he would have scored on it's now 14 points scored rather than 7. Rogers or Landry catch the other 2 and we've changed possession and field position for our offense.

There aren't many teams that are going to look great offensively starting every drive on their own 24 yard line. Good to great teams get help from their defense to 'flip the field' and convert shorter scoring drives. We're not the Pats, Colts or Cowboys. We're not going to have too many 76 yard drives each game, we need those game changing plays to be made.

IF those plays were made, we'd all be talking about the second coming of the '85 Bears. The defense making those plays makes the offense better by putting them in positions to succeed!

You have to give it time. The early part of the schedule is very tough (I happen to think the Saints are likely to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl).

Good point,
of our first five game this season, NOBODY except for most of on this site expects us to win more than one (Az game). The other teams we play are better than are we as proclaimed by the football guru's. Hell, maybe they are. AND on the road against division foe's
SO, it cannot come as a big surprise that we lost to the S-bowl champs in their crib
As the thread states......relax............
We have a total Rookie gig going on here with coach. Offense, etc, plenty of injuries to go around.
Was it pretty? No
From the first qtr, it looked like it would be an old school beat down. Our D managed to pull it together to some degree in spite of being on the field for 16 hours.
JZ is a little shell shocked at the moment, and this type of shit will not stand with this team
AND have a drink to better times to come
after all, Beer....it's not just for breakfast anymore
