A sprained knee is pretty lucky. jason will be out a while. But at least he will play. The very next play the panthers scored a touchdown. I have never seen the wheels fall off so fast. why even throw the ball when you can grind it out on a tired defense. My god the safety play was a killer. we should have drafted kenny phillips. now the giants got him and we still have reed douty. How very unfortunate for us!!!!

I won't make any regular season predictions based on this game alone, but I will take it for what is/was - a serious blowout. Now the big question is can we hunker down and save face. Based on this team's track record of bouncing back, I would say the odd's favor the Redskins heavily. I'm not willing to bet against this team, that's all.

Now, two things about Jason Campbell. I totally disagree with one of the posters that Jason locks in on one receiver too long. I think it's just the opposite, he probably looks at his other options a little too much. And for the Todd Collins lovers, you put him behind last night's offensive line, and you get six or seven sacks, in my opinion.

The only solace I'm taking at this point is that we'll probably line up 99% of our starters on opening day. This is a veteran team, and we'll be relatively healthy and hungry on opening night. That's what I'm counting on. Remember, they doubled the amount of work they put in this training camp under Jim Zorn than they did under Gibbs last season. It's possible they mentally checked out around mid-way through the second quarter due to the two-a-days.

Well, he could have done the Brunell chuck out of bounds, but he was getting pressure instantly on lots of those plays.

Here's a question for those with DVRs and the stomach for looking. Did Campbell MISS open routes out there? Were people ever running free and he didn't see them, etc.? My guess is that the rush and tight coverage made it very tough and he held the ball more for that reason than for failing to read the D in the woefully short time he had.

But the whole team, JC included, played poorly. Let's see if Zorn and co can fix it!

Yes, he did miss open guys. I don't remember seeing anyone totally blow by anyone on the plays where he held on too long, but he definitely had options and didn't take them.

I think Reed Doughty has just proven that he is not a starter in the NFL. If I was Blache I would find a way to pair Kareem Moore up with Landry as our starting safeties. After watching the game for a 2nd time Moore looks like he is the real deal. He had two plays where he took bad angles against the RB but the play should have been stopped way before it got to him forcing Moore to change direction to compensate for the earlier missed tackles which caused him to take the bad angles.

Of course Moore wasn't a beacon of perfection last night, but he's a rookie who will learn in time and I see so much upside in him that I think he needs to be starting somewhere.

I think another key factor in our motivation was this was our 4th preseason game. As we know, many NFL starters debate benefit of a 4 or 5 game preseason. I think our starter just went through the motions. Mentally, the starters were fatigued of the preseason.

Carolina's starters knew this was their key game and the last real action prior to the regular season, and were hyped.

Outside of the play, what also concerns me is I am not sure we are any closer to settling roster spots 50-53.

Coaches will have practice to do their more through evaluations, but it would have been nice to see some guys step up huge and move off the bubble.

Finally, I realy like what I see out of TE Davis. Like Peter King stated in his preview, the guy is a stud. Just needs more time.

My god is the sky falling? I was at last nights game and it seemed as though carolina came out looking like a team that hadnt played a game in 10 days with a clear game plan. Listen folks i understand game 3 of the preseason is suppose to be a look at the regular season but i am not a believer in gauging anything by preseason play. I was hoping to see more than what i saw last night....am I a little worried....if i said no i'd be lying but shall i go over the list of everyone who didnt play last night and no to mention I think Joe Bugel has been away from the team for a while dealing with his own personal tragedy and the pyschological blow of seeing Jason taylor laying on the ground. All I am simply suggesting is lets not lose our heads over this. We as a team and a fan base need to all put this behind us...as hard as it might and move forward. Sept 4 is approaching fast and we need to get over this. FYI I was almost kicked out of the gridiron club last night when carolina's coach challenged the on play when they were up 44-3.....who the f*ck challenges a play like that when they are winning so handily? but as the title of this thread says...the sun did rise again today...and by all accounts it will set tonight. Word for the day fellow redskin fans is....RELAX!

Why has NO ONE (on comcast or other media & the warpath - correct me if I'm wrong) mentioned that the poor play came after a tough week w/Buges' daughter & Gene Upshaw passing away on thursday?

Team can get blown out simply cause they're flat. Seems that aside from a few guys that had reason to play hard, the team spirit was not there. I'd rather see them flat in a preseason game.

I certainly am not discounting all those here that pointed out the problems w/the O, I am troubled by it as well. But one play stands out to me as an example of how this game might be a huge anomaly, Samuels getting bull rushed by Peppers. Sure Peppers can beat him in any game, but he's not likely to do it that way. Plays like that happen when you're not focused; Samuels didn't get low enough & allowed him to gain leverage. He's an all-pro tackle yet he had a bad game too. I think that play summed up the whole night.

JWSleep makes a good point, if Betts doesn't fumble that ball we were on a drive & only down 6-0. Even though carolina had dominated to that point they only had 6 points. If we'd have been able to finish that drive, the night might've gone differently. In a preseason game though, it's easy to see why the D would lose its intensity after being on the field for so long.

I know I'm not usually positive beacon of light around here, but I submit that this could actually be good for the team in the long run.

First, it's preseason. Yeah, we looked awful in every aspect of the game, yeah we got our asses handed to us by the Carolina Panthers for a full 60 minutes. But, in the grand scheme of things, come the first week of the regular season we're all back to 0-0. This doesn't hurt our chances of the playoffs or a Super Bowl.

Second, I think this could really beneficial if you think about it. We were 3-0, feeling good, thinking we're hot stuff and ready to take over the league. What happened last night was that a LOT of our weaknesses were exposed in a big way. We now have a nice punchlist of items to address in practice with respect to the weak defense and offense.

Sure, ideally we'd be so good that there wouldn't be any problems to even address. If any of you really think we're on the brink of an undefeated season culminating in a Super Bowl, we won't have any injuries and every game we play will be flawless, you're in for a bit of a shock.

I know it's the silver lining on a dark cloud, but at least our weaknesses were exposed and we can now work on them.

Someone once said something along the lines of, "Wisdom comes from experience. Experience comes from screwing things up."

Sometimes it takes failing in a big way to recognize what you need to work on to succeed. I'd much rather have this revelation the fourth game of the preseason than figure it out five games into the regular season when it's really hard to right the ship.

collins took us to the playoffs.cambell getting hurt was the only way we would have won 4 straight.(we probably lose that game to the bears)We cant wait till we till we are in the hole before zorn makes the switch.Face it cambell is not getting better.when he holds the ball forever instead of throwing it in the stands. It just shows that his lack of vision and poor accuracy. also he is not mobile. What the heck he has a stronger arm and hes younger than collins. we will never win with him!!!

Damn, I'd love to give you negative feedback right now.

hey mods whoever the first one to start the collins should be the starter thread should be banned forever.....the idea of collins needing to be the starter is as credible as the skins should name me as starting qb...i do have the physical tools...6'5 240 and a lefty..lol.... collins looks like a deer caught in the headlights everytime this preseason i have seen him play. campbell is our guy...win lose or draw thats who i want behind center.
