Not that it's of any real importance right now, but I guess Troy Vincent takes over for now

Wow, like everyone else has said, I didn't know he was battling cancer. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Not exactly how we all thought this might play out. Aside from the real issues involving his death the power struggles within the union set a pretty intersting context for this development. I am guessing there are some people in the NFL front offices who see this as a positive development labor wise even though it is obviously an awful development for his friends and family and really the football world in general.

What about Kevin Mawae, or are his presidential duties above performing the labor of an Executive director?

Mawae was plopped into that spot when Vincent was part of the coup attempt or semi-coup attempt I believe. It'll be interesting to see whether he or Vincent gets the job. I'd imagine there aren't any other candidates.

It truly is a shame that this is getting very little attention. Brett Favre passes gas and there are 10 reporters on site to describe the scent. Shame on ESPN and all others who are slow to report this. Gene Upshaw deserves much better than this. Kudos to the Warpath for giving this the attention it deserves.

RIP Mr. Upshaw

HAIL!!

My prayers and condolences go out to Gene Upshaw's family and friends. He had a very strong influence on NFL player relationships and contracts. With his passing, I think the NFL player union will lose some of it's strength. Hopefully, the NFL player union will find a suitable replacement.

They do have a deputy, Clark Gaines? or something like that, but I doubt he'll be the one selected. I think Mawae would have to retire first
