Here's my 2 cents:

Never, ever punt if you are on the opponents side of the field.

Think about it - if you are on their 40 and it's 4th down you have two choices:

1) Go for it - you have at least a 25-30 % chance of converting first down.
2) Punt and likely they will get the ball on the 20 yard line. So you gave up 20 yards for a chance to keep momentum? I'll take that every time.

Plus, I say throw it up - an INT deep in their territory is the same as a punt except we actually have a chance of converting, whereas with a punt we do not.

Sounds like the Madden approach.

Zorn is going to be a good coach. We should be able to tell Sat. versus Carolina. I think he will gameplan that game more than the others.

Matty, statisticians have worked out that teams would average a greater point differential is they went for it from (I believe) the opposing teams 40 yard line on anything 4th and 3 or lower. Its been a while since I read the study, Ill see if I can find it later.

12. On short playes like 4th and 1 fake the snap and have Rabach move the chains.

 I don't think you can do that.

You can if the ball touches the QB's hands. I can't remember what that play is called, but we used to do it all the time in backyard football. :biggthump

I was actually talking about the center snapping the ball into the QB's hands, and then pulling it away from him and running forward with it -- so, no fumble involved. It's only good for a yard or two (if that).

1. No one ever really properly defended the slip screen to Moss.

2. A lot more things go wrong with 5 man pass pro than do with 6 or 7.

3. The best play sequence in goal to go, is run pass run, regardles of the yardage needed.

4. Clinton Portis is the best ball player on your team.

5. Gadget plays work the best in the 3rd quarter and on 2nd down.

6. Special Team Trick Plays are way under-utilized.

7. In goaline, it's best to have two receivers run the baseline.

8. Don't lean too heavily on draws or screeens early on in the season.

9. Get your QB moving with designed rolls. sprints, whatever.

10. Only go for it based on the crowd in December and January.

That'll do.

1. Actually that play to Moss worked in 05 but I remember that play being stuffed several times in 06. Teams adjusted to it but it wouldn't hurt to try it once a game. Back in 05 Gibbs ran that play in the dirt.

2. I've been watching that too and it seems we're sending out 5 guys a lot but in contrast the QB is suppose to get rid of the ball quicker. It looks like they had better start giving Jansen some help. Especially in the opener. No way is Jansen going to be able to block Tuck 1 on 1.

9. I think we're going to see JC on the move a lot more once the real games start.
