irish 08-14-2008, 11:13 AM I think it's myopic to say that Gibbs was simply brought back to bring a title. Beyond being coach he was also President. He was also brought back to restore some pride in the team, and set the team up to be successful for years to come. It wasn't Zorn that brought in Campbell, Portis, Landry, Moss, Cooley, Golston, Montgomery, etc.
Not to take anything from Zorn, but as skinsfan69 pointed out just wait until things get tough. I'm excited right now about what Zorn can and will do with this team (much of which was put together over the last four years) but I don't see the need to put down what has been accomplished to get us here. Yes it's disappointing that we didn't win a title, but in the long run there is simply much more than that.
But that's neither here nor there with regards to JLC
Pride is restored in the team by winning in general and championships specifically. Gibbs was only moderately successful in that aspect.

Whatever you say
I to am VERY happy with what JZ has brought.
HOWEVER, as has been pointerd out, it is early, AND at this point in time, this is still basically Gibbs team
12thMan 08-14-2008, 12:04 PM In terms of Zorn inheriting a team that appears to be on it's way, that's starting to be a trend around the league these days. Wade Phillips inherited a great team, or at least a team with great talent, ditto Norv Turner in San Diego. And who can forget Chucky down in Tampa a few years ago after Dungy departed. But for every coach that get's set up with a good team, I guess there are two more that go to perennial losers.
Whatever the case may be with JLC, this thread is way more enjoyable than any of his blogs.
Ruhskins 08-14-2008, 12:22 PM I must say that I'm not a big fan of the whole "inheriting a team" cliche. I mean, even if Zorn did inherit "Gibbs' team", he still has to coach them to succeed. Yes he may have a leg up on getting a playoff team with most of its starters back, instead of getting a losing team. However, Zorn still has to coach them and overcome the setbacks that prevented this team from going deep into the playoffs. In Chucky's case in Tampa Bay, yes he may have inherited a good team from Dungy, but he still had to coach them to the playoffs and the SB. I bet if Zorn has a losing season, no one will say that he inherited Gibbs team.
EXPOSE'.......awesome!
Awesome indeed, Those girls could sing. ;)
skinsguy 08-14-2008, 01:13 PM I believe if Gibbs treated people like morons he wouldn't be as respected today as he has been.
Why can't some people just let it die and say it's on to something else. Sorry, it just sounds like a bit of sour grapes to me coming from JLC. I enjoy reading his blogs and find myself looking for them anytime there might be some big news coming, but this, imo, is quite unprofessional of him.

Uh oh. Are you about to hijack this thread...to the point of no return?
70Chip 08-15-2008, 11:03 AM I have been away for a while, and thought I would check back in and what a way to get in the mix, Gibbs.
I defended Gibbs for as long as I possibly could. I think JLC is very good at letting us know what is going on. None of us really know what goes on behind the walls of Redskins Park, but I bet you the Joe we all saw was nothing like the Joe in the locker room. I am sure there is some truth to what JLC says about how gibbs treated the media, a lot of coaches have that "i forget more football than you will ever learn in your life" attitude towards the media. I think everyone was shocked at what Gibbs brought back to the Redskins. It worked the first go'round but really wasn't very successfule the second. Yeah two playoffs, which is awesome, but honestly it was a miracle that we won 5 and 4 games in row to make it.
Zorn seems to have brought some freshness with him, the players seem to love it and the media as well, which translates us fan feeling great about Zorn.
lets all move forward from the Gibbs thing.
Perhaps it was a miracle, but if you look at his record in December, it is a miracle he performed on a regular basis throughout his career.
So far Jim Zorn is the August King. We'll see if he still seems so "fresh" in December. I'm not pulling against him and I do see a lot to recommend his approach, but I think it's awfully premature to declare him successful where Gibbs wasn't.
