From the stats and notes it sounds like the Skins turned in a solid effort tonight on both sides of the ball - sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

Springs at safety though? I know he's capable but I hope we never see it in the regular season.

Well, as usual, stats don't tell the whole story...

From the second half kickoff until about 12:49 in the 4th quarter, the Skins only had one first down. So there was a long stretch of 3 and outs.

A few more things to watch --

-- Jansen continues to get beat at least once in the series that he plays. Last night he was called for a hold.

-- Pass defense at times seems to be an issue. At certain points with the second and third stringers, opposing QBs are connecting with little effort. Leigh Torrence and Justin Tryon got beat a couple of times.

-- kickoff and punt coverage is seriously lacking.

On a positive note, Billy McMullen is making a big push for the last wideout spot. If I'm keeping score, he's ahead of everbody's favorite, Anthony Mix.

I hope you're right, but there have been concerns about Big John's abilities starting to fade, and he's looked very average thus far this season. I know Heyer looked bad in the HOF game, but if Jansen keeps this up and Heyer and Reinhart continue to develop... I hate the thought of John being phased out, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is his last season as a significant contributor to this team.

I was at the game last night, here were my observations:
Tryon and Torrence were both hit-and-miss at CB last night, Matteral Richardson turned in another solid performance.
Other than the fumble Marcus Mason was a beast.
Doughty was strong in the run game and he's a good blitzer but i'm worried about his coverage skills.
Alfred Fincher, Rian Wallace, Khary Campbell, and Matt Sinclair all looked good at linebacker.
Kareem Moore and Justin Hamilton looked solid at safety, but I wasn't impressed with Patrick Ghee. I was dissappointed that Horton didn't play.
On Offense the run game as a whole was very impressive, but the passing game looked like it needs some work.
On Defense the run D looked solid, the secondary was shaky, and the pass rush was limited.
The special teams coverage units were decent, Suisham and Frost both looked solid, but the return units look like they need some work.

I think your point about Jansen's performance has some merit.
We all need to keep an eye on him the next few games.
He was not his old self a year ago at this time with many calling for Todd Wade to take his spot because of potential (at that time)
We all know the Jansen of a few years ago when he was playing with 2 broken thumbs...but after a couple of major injuries, he has not gotten back to form.

I'm not sold on Heyer as a potential starter yet, but the rookie looked good at left tackle, sure he had bad position a couple of times, but he didn't give up a sack....and that is a very good sign.....excellent draft selection

from what i have seen from Jansen so far, he had better pick it up. because it seems as though Heyer has at least Jansen's talent level. and he is a helluva lot younger. with a ton more upside. anyone know what kind of money Jansen makes? it could play a role here

I'm not sure if it was Schobel or Kelsay but who ever it was bull rushed Jansen right into JC. Then Jansen got beat badly and ended up getting a holding penalty. Plus he got beat for a sack last week. He's got some pretty tough pass rushers coming up on Sept. 4th. I don't know about any of you guys but I'm pretty concerned at RT.

I don't know if I say Mason was a beast. He really did not do much until the 4th and by then the Bills had in 3rd stringers and scrubs which makes it tough to judge his performance. I'd say Betts showed why he is important here as our second RB.

I didnt see the HOF game but I did see this one and I still feel that Zorn has this team right where it needs to be. I also feel even stronger that this team will succeed or fail based on Campbell's play.
