freddyg12 08-04-2008, 01:51 PM Horton had a game, but did anyone see him in coverage much? only play I remember was when the colts' brody dropped an easy td behind him.
Horton looks like he could be the second coming of sam shade, great hitter and physical ss but not good at all in coverage. Hope I'm wrong. Anyway, for a 7th round pick he showed something & can play special teams.
EXoffender 08-04-2008, 03:58 PM Good play:
Jason Campbell Looked razor sharp technically.
Brennan 2TDs. He's lethal working outside the pocket.
Rob Jackson Looks to be a lot more well rounded than scouts predicted or is recieving his coaching well.
Richardson Showed great awarness with INT and score to show for it.
Torrence Big 3rd down solo-stop against bigger IND TE.
Rinehart Solid blocking and finished off a DB (pancake) on a run play.
Davis Great catch and run ability. Practically begged Brennan to throw to him in the redzone.
Horton What hasn't been said already?
Yoder I thought we were fine at TE with Yoder on the roster and should've drafted for another position when we selected Davis.
Mann Mix and Kelly beware.
Brooks Whoa! Hang time and distance...
Geisinger Gaping holes up the middle and no botched snaps make me feel good about depth here. I got to look this guy up...
Marginal play:
Suisham No more missed FGs Shazaam!
Gatewood The LBs looked like bumbling fools late in the game. The DL had some to do with it.
Tryon I agree with 'skinsnut' and 'that guy'. For a 4th rounder and big talker it took a few blown coverages for him to settle down.
Huntley Great size but, he has no clue what to do with it.
Boschetti Had no business playing DE but, being thin at the position and maybe a gauge to look at LB play; we lost containment on the outside way too much.
Westbrook Likely to be cut today
Free pass:
Jansen Rusty sack?
Doughty Tackled well early but seemed to lose confidence after Clark faked him out near the sideline on the IND FG.
Schweigert Working in what seemed to be a cover-2 zone, he looked slow to react to a flooded assignment and gave up the TD.
Heyer I'm not sold that he's a solid backup.
EXoffender 08-04-2008, 04:01 PM I was impressed by our rookie Head Coach. He remained composed throughout the game, and as someone else mentioned, there did not appear to be the confusion on the field that we've gotten used to over the last decade or so - hope that sticks. Zorn seems to have a clear plan, and the players are executing, whether they're 1st string or 3rd string. What else can you expect from a head coach? I'm excited to see more!Agreed. We could've taken a quicker TO working in 2-minute offense before the half (Collins) but, there was no panic.
riggins44 08-04-2008, 05:59 PM I thought Brooks had good distance and hang time. Would be interesting on the return for a touchdown that was called back, if he out kicked coverage or if the coverage broke down.
My concern for Brooks is holding for FG's and EP's. Heard somewhere today that missed FG was result of a poor hold. If this is the case, he could lose to
Frost on holding.
mlmpetert 08-04-2008, 06:08 PM I want to see Brooks make a tackle too. One thing ive always thought Frost was real good at, for a kicker, is being the last line of defense on returns. He's a pretty decent tackler and has even had a few memorable hits over the years. It seems like Forst even gets a little excited sometimes and beats a fair amount of other players to the tackle.
Maybe Brooks hang time is better than Frost’s, to the point where less punts will be returned, but Ive always had a level of comfort with Frost ready to make a save.
JLee9718 08-04-2008, 06:10 PM There were several rookies that looked like they'll make the team, even though it was just an exhibition game. I thought Brennan would be cut early, but obviously I wasn't thinking right, and I had never seen him play anyway. But he looked good last night. So did several other rookies.
JGisLordOfTheRings 08-04-2008, 06:20 PM The fact is, our backups are far better than the Colts backups. That is something important to me. Also, we're seeing rookies play, we're not expecting these guys to make our team. But preseason football counts. We played very clean and solid football, especially offensively and we got to see tons of players. The score and stats don't matter in preseason, but if we see flags flying constantly, or just pure confusion all over the field, we're in trouble. We didn't see much of that at all which is a great site.
I was impressed, like everyone else, with Horton, Colt, Rob Jackson, etc. As usual, Marcus Mason had another great game in the preseason. I wouldn't be surprised if a team thin at RB stole him off our PS this year. Tryon made some mistakes, but I still hope he makes the team. And he had a few good plays, though he had far more bad ones. Maybe it's me, but I was not impressed with Gatewood at all, he seemed kinda... scared to me.
I agree totally there. Thats exactly what I wanted to see from our 1st teams on both sides of the ball. No confusion, just line up and run the play. We were crisp and sharp on offense when Collins wasn't in imo.
I liked what I saw overall and it quelled my nerves a little bit on how ready and prepared we are.

Brooks not at fualt:
Draft Picks Shine In Debut (http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=37450)
Brooks also served as holder on field goal attempts. The Redskins had just one field goal opportunity, a 39-yarder by Shaun Suisham. The kick sailed wide right.
Zorn said the fault on the play did not lie with Brooks. Still, Zorn said he hoped to give Brooks more of an opportunity to establish himself as a holder for Suisham.
ChillWill 08-04-2008, 11:21 PM I was impressed with Rob Jackson and further ipressed that Jason Taylor has been impressed with him during practice and thinks this kid has potential to be a very good DE.

That is good news. I like Brooks. Pulling for this kid to win the job.
