The fact is, our backups are far better than the Colts backups. That is something important to me. Also, we're seeing rookies play, we're not expecting these guys to make our team. But preseason football counts. We played very clean and solid football, especially offensively and we got to see tons of players. The score and stats don't matter in preseason, but if we see flags flying constantly, or just pure confusion all over the field, we're in trouble. We didn't see much of that at all which is a great site.

I was impressed, like everyone else, with Horton, Colt, Rob Jackson, etc. As usual, Marcus Mason had another great game in the preseason. I wouldn't be surprised if a team thin at RB stole him off our PS this year. Tryon made some mistakes, but I still hope he makes the team. And he had a few good plays, though he had far more bad ones. Maybe it's me, but I was not impressed with Gatewood at all, he seemed kinda... scared to me.

I'm surprised more ppl aren't talking about Mason, even though he is not a rookie. I think he played pretty hard, and though our RB position is pretty solid, i think he is worth taking a look at. He was pounding it up the gut like we have needed in the past and I think the Gibbs/Bugel rushing offense is tailored for his skills set.

One thing irks me about Rock Cartwright...he is a great, scrappy player with many rare intangibles qualities but he does NOT have a nose for the line to gain (1st down/goal line/etc). He likes to bounce it out too much and spends way too much time on his cutbacks. It's really starting to piss me off to have to watch him dance around the line of scrimmage instead of getting positive yardage. I almost wanna say that we should keep him for strictly special team activities.
Cartwright when asked plays well coming in as a 3rd string Rb. Last night he averaged around 4.7 yards per play and is around 4.5 career average. He is not a bounder of the ball so he has to find the open lanes. So if averaging 4.5 is not positive yards then I guess your right.

I'm mostly just impressed with the way the team played as a whole. Very few mistakes, very few stupid penalties, the offense was able to move the ball, and the defense clamped down in the redzone.

I agree 100%. Sometimes it was almost embarassing to watch some of the Skins mistakes in recent years. This is a legendary team with a proud past, and it will be nice to see them play like it, week after week. Not a bunch of overpriced "has-beens" tripping over each other to see who can screw up worse. Let's hope Zorn is a step in the right direction.

Very impressive pre-season game. First of all, there were no major injuries. Secondly, both units performed admirably without a lot penalties, which indicates that the team was well prepared. With a new head coach and offensive philosophy, I was very impressed with the offense's ability to move the ball, both on the ground and in the air. All of the quarterbacks were productive, especially Jason Campbell and Colt Bennan. Since it's pre-season, I can't get too excited, but I am very encouraged by the performance. Zorn passed his first test and it makes me want to see more.

I was impressed by our rookie Head Coach. He remained composed throughout the game, and as someone else mentioned, there did not appear to be the confusion on the field that we've gotten used to over the last decade or so - hope that sticks. Zorn seems to have a clear plan, and the players are executing, whether they're 1st string or 3rd string. What else can you expect from a head coach? I'm excited to see more!

good read from everyone. thank you

to add to the list:

mike hart (colts) - dont know why he was drafted so late for a guy who excelled in a big program. i understand colt brennan going in the 6th because of his side arm throw and playing in hawaii but can someone tell me why hart wasnt picked up till the 6th? is it because of his size and people not believing he could take an NFL pounding?

go skins!

One possibility is to have Rock backup Sellers at FB, and keep Mason on our active roster as the #3 RB. I'm not sure if Rock could handle FB duties, but I seem to remember him at that position four or five years ago.

he played fb for the ole ball coach, then lost weight to play tb for Gibbs. I've thought about that too. He lacks size to be a crushing fb like sellers. He doesn't have a future as a #1 or #2 tailback in the nfl, he lacks speed, but he's a football player & would work hard to be a good fb. I think his size hurts his chances though.
