He needs more preseason games before the hype starts to take over and people start filling him in as the #2 QB. He had a good game but he still in a learning phase of his development. I liked what I saw but I will need to see way more of it before I'm convinced he's even ready to be a backup.

Also being that we paid Collins as recently as this past offseason precludes us from demoting him to the #3 spot. Collins is our backup no matter how many TD's Brennan throws.

Gotta be happy w/Colt, of course you can't make too much of it. I like that Madden said he could "feel energy" from him.

Did anyone think he looked a little like Heath Shuler in uniform? wearing #5 too

I wouldn't quite say that. If Brennan lit it up this preseason and looked like he definitely deserved to be the #2 I think the staff would give it to him. You have to remember a certain safety that we signed in the '06 offseason who absolutely sucked and was benched in the middle of the season, and demoted to like the lowest spot on the roster, even though he still had the richest contract ever signed by a safety. Just because we gave Collins a new contract doesn't mean he can't get demoted if Brennan steps up and takes the #2 spot away from him.

I'm glad he did well and I hope he continues to do well.

I think the one thing Collins has over Colt is the experience obviously. So I'd much rather see him at #2 than Colt. Regardless, of how they play in preseason. With that being said, if JC goes down(God forbid) and the season is in the toilet then Colt needs to be playing.

Zorn even said in today's press conference that Collins is still the #2 and the spot is not in danger of being overtaken.

I think that's a good idea to let the fans know from the start that he ahs no chance to ascend the depth chart because of the additional hype that would create in a town that loves its QB controversies.

I'm not debating whether Colt should be the #2 lol. I was just pointing out the inaccuracy of saying Collins has to be the #2 quarterback because he got a nice contract in the offseason.

Furthermore, I highly doubt Brennan ascends beyond the #3 spot this offseason. People are getting hyped up because he had a nice performance in his first game, when we all know what the reality of the situation was. Collins has experience over Brennan and I doubt he would play horribly enough to lose the #2 spot. Like many have pointed out Brennan has a long ways to go before he can even be called a good #2.

All last night did was more or less guarantee Colt a spot on our roster. It doesn't matter if he's #2 or #3 -- if Campbell goes down we can kiss the season goodbye. I would love to see him get some real game experience if we've either got a game won, or say games towards the end of the year don't matter for us either way. We've sealed a home playoff spot by SF or we're statistically out of the playoffs. In those situations Id like to get Colt some time.
