Slowest sports day of the year?

I think today is the slowest: the day after the baseball all-star game. No baseball, no football yet, no basketball, no hockey, Olympics haven't started, not even any golf.

(No, it doesn't deserve a thread, and yes, I am bored...;) )

Yeah, we are on the verge of the British Open. For me the day after the Superbowl is a bittersweet day. On the one hand, with both pro and college football being finished for months, I feel this profound emptiness. On the other hand, I suddenly have all this free time, it's as if I go from working two jobs to one.

I enjoy following basketball and the PGA Tour, but those are really just diversions for me. Football is a way of life.

THe silence before the storm. TRAINING CAMP STARTS SUNDAY!! That just means that football season is starting and we can all hope for a super bowl run no matter how bad the team looks.

Here's something to get you through the rest of the day (like 2 hours, but still):

For me the sports season has been over for a while. I follow the Nats and watch their games occasionally right now but baseball as a whole isn't that interesting to me watching on t.v. The sports season ended when the Caps and Wiz both got eliminated from the playoffs lol. That's the thing I like about watching football. When it's over hockey and basketball have only been going for a couple months and it keeps you busy until the Finals and the NHL playoffs are over. Baseball is nice but it's not riveting to watch for me like hockey or basketball.

You are right. Baseball is called "America's Pastime", and that is for a very good reason. Baseball is so slow, it allows you to past the time. You can watch the game while you clean the house or wash the car. There is so much lapse in action, you never really miss anything. The only thing on is NBA Summer Basketball League on NBA channel. You can watch the newly drafted rookies and bench players compete. Philly and Washington played last night. The Wizards might have a keeper at center,. JaVale McGee is a seven foot center from University of Nevada Reno. Looks very dominating.

My wife always says that we have a completely different weekend schedule during the season vs. the offseason... it's so true. During the season she knows that Sunday revolves around the Redskins. If it's a 4:00 game that means we can't go out to dinner and we have to order in instead. She's a real trooper, I've got to give her credit for giving me that.

After the season I totally agree about the bittersweet feeling. On one hand I'm depressed that the season is over, on the other I love the fact that my Sundays are suddenly wide open.

My girlfriend doesn't even try on Sundays during the season. Especially not since I moved in with my new roommates last season. Sundays have become: get up b/w 11 and 12, crack at beer at the 1 o'clock kickoff, watch football 1, 4, and Sunday night, go to bed if we're not too jacked up after the Sunday game...maybe play beer pong. And it's only going to get worse now that we're getting Directv and Sunday Ticket with 2 HD tv's in the living room...I can't wait!

You wait that long to crack a beer? You'd really have it made if said g/f had a beer waiting for you when you woke up ;)

My wife understands and has embraced the Sunday routine...sometimes she's more into it than I am. Early breakfast, showered and dressed in Skins gear, and in front of the TV by 12 to watch Fox Pregame and then 1pm Skins game. I concede the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the 4pm game for dinner and family time, then we'll flip between the Sunday night game and Fox's lineup after putting the baby to bed.

Enjoy these days, because one day you will have a wife and kids and days like that one exists. Not to say there isn't a lot of fun in having a family but sitting around for a whole day watching football isn't going to happen (assuming you are not a dead beat father/husband).

I watch the Skins then go out and play with my son for the remainder of the day, at this point I would not trade that for all the NFL tickets and HD tvs in the world.

The older my son gets the less I want to sit in front of the TV on a nice Sunday afternoon watching football. I still love the Skins but as I get older they are not such a pull on my life anymore. At some point he will enjoy watching football too and that is when it will be real fun to watch the Skins with my son rooting on.
