Unable to keep Cristobal Huet in the fold, Washington GM George McPhee went for the second-best option on the free-agent market and signed former Vezina and Hart Trophy winner Jose Theodore to a two-year, $9 million deal.

They also re-signed Green

Nooooo. I didn't want to lose Huet, I was really looking forward to seeing what he could do under a full season with Boudreau. I don't know what to think of them signing Theodore, I can only hope that he can fill Huet's shoes. Good move by them to lock up Green though.

I just finished reading that on Capitals insider. I'm glad they got Green locked in for 4 years.
It appeared to me all along Huet did not want to be here, if that is the case have fun in Chicago!
Jose Theodore is an outstanding goalie and I think the 2 year 9 mil is more in line with what the Caps where wanting. He is a 31 year old goalie with plenty of gas left in the tank coming of a solid second half last year, I think he will be a great fit in DC.
Looks like Olie is heading to Tampa.

It really did seem to Huet was simply making a money play. Can't really blame the guy. He only played here for 25 games or so and when traded here he publically admitted he was disappointed. He didn't have a lot of time to get attached. That being said I do think it was a least a little bit crappy to give an asking price and then reject it. Just be upfront from the beginning. If you don't want to sign then say so. If you do then don't pretend you'll take less money to stay and then chickensh*t out when they actually call your bluff and offer it. Whatever...on to next season. Theodore has a higher ceiling anyways. Huet was good, and even great at times, but Theodore has won a Vezina and I don't think Huet is quite to that level.

The thing I keep going back to is Huet was the reason Montreal sent Theodore packing. Theodore will be 32 once the season starts, and I hope he can get back to his Vezina/Hart form of 6 years ago. Decent replacement for Huet, but just hope he's enough to carry, because Brent Johnson is barely an adequate backup at this point in his career.
