Interesting pickup. He was really highly regarded as a RB when he first came to VT. If I had to say one thing about him is that he had good overall football skills. The coaches moved him to WR to get him playing time due to a crowded RB backfield. He moved to safety the next year due to inexperience at that position. Basically, he's a good enough athlete to play where the team needs him most. He may not have put up the amazing eyepopping stats that most people covet but he did play solid and selflessly when called upon. A good team-first guy to have...if he can play at the pro level which I have no idea.

its gotten to a point that if the redskins listened to people around here, they would only sign washed up 30 something year olds. of course, at the vet minimum

I love this signing!

If you do a search you'll find that a few of us discussed him as a potential late round pick a couple years ago.

724 summed up most of his college career, this guy is a great athlete & team player. Very smart & well spoken as well. The coaches at VT were always looking for a spot where he could get playing time. They probably made a mistake by trying to play him as a rb right out of high school as he was tall & ran too straight up, but was no Eddie George. He was a decent wr, but when they moved him to safety he cracked the starting lineup as a senior.

That might not sound too impressive to the avg. fan, but think about it. How many players can play only 1 year at a position in college & still get an nfl job as a rookie at that position? I know he didn't play last year, don't know why. Probably wasn't picked up by anybody.

I think his range in coverage is going to be his problem, unless he's improved greatly. He's no lock to make the team by any means, but one thing is for sure, he can play special teams. The same has been said about K. Moore too. Actually the two of these guys have a lot in common it sounds like, only Hamilton is bigger.

He'll be hungry, so there will be good competition at safety in camp.

I really think the reason they picked him up is because he has NFL experience...outside of our starting safetys....who only have 1 year experience....we've got no experience with our safety depth.

This guy played several games and knows the speed of the NFL...rookies dont know that yet, and they are lower draft picks to boot. We really should have an experienced backup safety on the final roster....I think maybe this is what they are trying to do...but this guy is a stretch at that attempt.

He was released late preseason last year....he had an ankle injury.
He was likely average at best.

I wouldn't be suprised if they continue to keep their eyes open for an aging vet to get cut late in preseason for safety....and of course, LB, CB, Dline too.

honestly, i do remember mentioning him (i think) in his draft season. there's a good chance he can plays teams for us, but i don't think he'll be playing too much on normal downs...

Out of our 2008 Undrafted free agent class of 13 players. We picked up two linebackers, both with good size.

Curtis Gatewood OLB, 6'3" 248lbs, Vanderbilt
Bryan Wilson LB, 6'3" 250lbs, Morgan State
