good article on how an uncapped year would impact the Skins:

As expected, the NFL owners voted to end the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players association on Tuesday. The unanimous vote has no immediate impact, but it does start the clock ticking towards an uncapped year in 2010.

Prior to the CAP I don't recall any one team monopalizing all the talent. I can recall several times were Cook said no we are not going after a certain player. Maybe it was what the asking price for that player but we did not bid on every player.

The players may get stuck with their team for 6yrs prior to being released. Who cares. It's not like they will be old men and can't perform. Sign a contract for less yrs. A contract is a contract. You get drafted by a terrible team sign a contract for only 4yrs. If the team does well then resign.

Atleast you would have players that could decide if it's all about the money or maybe it's taking a smaller check to be closer to your home town or play for your favorite team you always liked growing up. Prior to the CAP players had more patriotism for the team they played for. I can remember the rivalries seemed stronger. Players didn't walk to the enemy simply for the pay check. They may have stayed to be with a coach they liked or players on the team they liked or felt the team was on the brink of making it to the SB. There were a few defectors. Nothing like today though.

If they decide to Keep the CAP I would like to see a more significant jump each yr so teams have better chance of resigning their players instead of having to let them go only to sign someone else of equal talent and cost. ie: Antonio Pierce/London Fletcher.
